According to the World Bank, yes. Our economy is based mostly on exports of agricultural goods (dairy, fruits). We export a fair amount of lumber too, as our climate and conditions can shave 25 years off the growth time of fully grown pine. Also we have a booming tourism industry. It's like living on a different planet to places like America or England.
Yeah, that's sort of why the idea of NZ becoming a part of Australia has never flown well. It would mean giving up our currency, much of our assets ( aluminium, coal, tourism ) etc to the Australian government. And it would be something that couldn't be undone. We would become a minority in the Australian political system. We'll just wait until Australia is invaded by Iran for all it's rich uranium deposits, and then beat Iran with our superior weaponry (Iran's missiles might reach the USA but it certainly isn't gonna reach NZ) and take Australia for ourselves.
