Hey guys, I would REALLY appreciate some feedback on a new design im doing Once this design is completed it will be used as my portfolio and what not. Anyway, hope you guys like it http://jase92.deviantart.com/art/JDH-Desig...e-WIP-141172146 Thanx -Jase
Seems pretty wasteful for a portfolio site. The key thing to developing a good portfolio site is to draw attention as little as possible to the design of the site. It detracts from the work. You want functionality, simplicity, and neutrality. Take a good hard look at almost any good designers portfolio sites and you'll see these three things. You shouldn't be trying to use your site as a piece, but rather just the medium.
Those are good points but at the same time I have to disagree with you a bit, your portfolio should sill be visually appealing and exhibit a hint of your style, its the first thing a prospective client will see and therefore will be your first impression on them, its like what you would chose to wear to a job interview. You have to find the happy medium, ensuring that its easy to navigate, not over crowded and organized well but still shows a quick and small sample of your skills or strengths. It can end up being the deciding factor that keeps a client from just closing the window and leaving, instead causing them to spend the extra couple minutes to check out your body of work and possibly gaining you the job.
The top distracted me way too much, and the way you want to navigate them on top right, well.. I just don't like that way of navigating, it looks to random to me. Overall the design is pretty good, but I don't think this is a great portfolio, perhaps you can do some work on the header to make it less distracting. But I surely love your color combinations.
I like the simplicity for it being a portfolio site and also I like the colors you used however I think that you should make everything BIGGER the text the content boxes everything but it is an alright design if you make things bigger I think it will make it a lot better cause I know I dont like squinting my eyes just to read something but all and all nice job man
PriMetiMe did u make sure u pressed full view? Btw, thanx for the opinions guys. If anyone is interested.. here is a small update (these ones have not been placed on a background) http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/6481/jdhdesigns.jpg http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/2231/jd...ignsgallery.jpg
Looks excellent. A portfolio site should impress and wow the socks off your employers and future clients. Using a simple portfolio with minimal visuals may make you look more -----, but it does not help if you're trying to design graphically heavy websites and appeal to modern businesses. Not too much a fan of the hot pink. You could probably add another page with a neon orange color.
