I wasn't sure where to put this, but i figured this forum would work.

Okay so my problem is that I got a photographer and everything and got my senior photos, but he didn't edit them for me! So I have to edit them myself. So what i'm wondering is, how do you guys edit your senior photos? What are some tips and tricks that I could use? I have 20 photos to edit and want to do a few different things and make them look really -----.

    You must be ugly...

But anyways, if you feel like you HAVE to edit your photos, simply find a high quality scanner and scan them to your computer. Then use Photoshop.

    Boop.

It's just an option to get your photos edited. Costs extra.

Basically what the companies focus on is blemishes. Some companies even offer to "remove" braces in the photo.

The main tool you want to use for blemishes, would probably be the clone stamp tool.

You could also add a nice gaussian blur to it after duplicating the layer and then messing with the blending modes.

Just mess around with it I guess.

If you want to get an easy portrait/photo editor that instantly removes all that crap like blemishes and spots then get Portrait Pr0fessional. I'm sure you can find a copy somewhere. It does the trick.

Selective Color layers can get some good looks as well.

Get Topaz Adjust. Mimics HDR and does a really good job of it.

Meh HDR only really works for certain types of portraits, so it more or less depends on the picture. If you have CS3+ Photoshop, Do different black and white layer presets like Infrared and Yellow Filter etc and throw them on Luminosity blending mode, can create some really interesting contrasts, smooth out the noise with blurring and reduce noise filters.

Gah! No default filters, they won't even let you turn it in with them. They generally look tacky if you don't know how to use them anyway. Even the custom filters will look like crap if you don't know how to use them.

Use adjustment layers. Don't overdo it. You will want to adjust curves to increase contrast (unless photog had camera set to increase contrast). An S curve will do (shaped like an S, naturally). Here is a curves tutorial.

Maybe tweak saturation/vibrance (whichever option you have).

Use unsharp mask after resizing it to make the photo look a little sharper (contrary to the name, this does sharpen photos. The name is a relic from the darkroom days.)

I'd do basic editing on them for $40 :P. Or if you're really desperate and don't know how, contact the photographer and ask him if he'll do some more editing for more money. Negotiations aren't out of the picture.

And if you REALLY want to do it yourself and don't own Photoshop, download the trial. It has all the features and expires after 30 days.
