I was connecting a printer to a wireless router for my friends so he could print off his laptop from anywhere in the house.

I have it set like this,
modem connected to the router (for internet of course)
Ethernet from the printer (KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2490MF) to an open Ethernet port on the wireless router.

When I go to add a printer on the laptop (which is on the same network, just wirelessly) it cannot find the printer.
    Os is Windows XP

    Anyone got some ideas?

Have you turned on the network setting on the printer?

I didn't know if there was such an option. I'm not much of a printer type guy, but I got into the menu and went under network settings and basically all i could do was set all the address like ip subnet dns ddns and so forth, or set it to auto.

I also noticed the ethernet in the back was solid orange, whichtypically means standby.

Be sure you have also installed the drivers that were included with the printer, as that is basically all you have to do to access a wireless printer these days.

it's a hardwired printer, its a bit older.

and I fixed it. I got into the network settings and manually set the ip.

In xp I went to add a printer and chose to add a local printer (even though its not connected) and when I had to chose which port it was I chose the tcp/ip setting. I then inserted the ip address of the printer on the router and it worked. Thanks for the help guys.
