I just bought a new HDD and connected it to my PC, Vista recognized and installed the drives for the HDD. Bios also displays the HDD and thus it is working correctly. My question is, how do I go about making it work now, how do I have make partitions on it or format it to work like the current HDD? Is there a way to do it other than through the windows installation (I know there is something but I just can't recall it). Please help!
Right click > Format Select NTFS, check the Quick Format box and hit the start button. Restart your PC when done.
Well as I said and posted the screenshot, it isn't displaying the HDD as a partition in the My Computer because it isn't partitioned or formatted yet, which is what I'm trying to do. EDIT: NVM, LBot helped me solve it. Now, what Allocation Unit Size should I choose for my partition? I will be mainly using it for storing 75% Video files - 25% Music files and such.
NTFS 4kb, best to leave cluster sizes at defaults (can cause compatibility issues between OS' and apps)
Alright, I've done that, also formatted my new HDD. However, when I tried moving a massive amount of date (particularly video files) my PC crashed thrice during the same operation. It gave me the BSOD and the error referred to the file win32.sys or something. It had the message of Physical Memory Dump as well like I used to receive before.
Did it and it worked, the problem seems to be arising when I try to open massive number of threads and the computer gets heavy. One reason could be because the power is not being supplied well to all the components since I'm using 450W PSU with a relatively heavy PC gear. Well that's a different subject, thank you for resolving this LBot, I appreciate it.
