Honestly, who cares? If I were to care enough to have a stance (which I do) then it would be FOR keeping the description as is, after all GR is a community and (I hope) a community which has a sense of humor and besides if some newb were to get offended and leave, then he obviously wasn't worth keeping in the first place if a joke as small as that is enough to make him leave. Anyone who joins GR and is a worthy user will most likely laugh at it and move on, if not they'll just ignore it. Anyone who does make a big deal out of it, imo doesn't deserve to be a part of this community.
I'm with steez here. It is not that big of a subject to worry about and if people can't take a joke then they have no reason to be on the site.
Attention whore should be removed. New people don't know their way around yet, nor will they most of the time get sarcastic jokes in the very beginning. As steez said in the Problems & Suggestions forum, no one likes attention whores so that will probably stop most people to make an intro thread.
It's a little something call sarcasm Personally, if I were to read that one a site, I would laugh my ass off and I would definitely make an intro topic, making fun of the description... Anyhow, I nulled my vote and other than that, read what Dem posted on page 1
ooh, draven is on the same ISP as me on a related note, intros will generally be a users first post so telling them to post but at the same time calling them an attention whore would make them wonder if they'll be welcome here in the longrun. First impressions are eveything...
It's too bad I missed the first thread. The subtext does not fit the philosphy or message an intro forum is supposed to be sending. The Intro forum is meant to be a place where new members make their initial posts, then assuming people to reply to said thread they will be encouraged to stick around. This could be their first chance at being accepted into an already established community. If they feel people actually want them there then they would move to other forums and begin posting there and become part of the community. The attitude of the subtext does not reflect this, while I realize it's meant as a sarcastic joke, most people would not get it or if they did may not appreciate it. Look at all the people getting e-hurt around here. It also doesn't reflect the rest of the forum, each individual forum has a subtext that describes the forum in a respectful manner. Why have one of the initially viewed forums break from the trend? If you want to have fun with subtext there would be more apporpriate places. I may be out of the loop but I don't think this is a message the staff should be sending via forum subtext, keep it to posts where you can individually choose members to have fun with. Making sure they can handle it first (or not its also fun). Having such a broadcasted joke may end up turning away more potentially good community members than it creates. PS: Grats to Zohair for agreeing with someone other than a staff member.
I am going to agree with previous posts. It's not a good idea, sure, it seems like a "Sarcastic Joke" but not only is it a poor place for it, but it's not even funny. Some people will appreciate the joke, some won't, if the site is going to be a newb-friendly site again then everyone has to appreciate it. "Get yourself a warm welcome!" would work better on it's own.
Yes but steez is a attention whore as is alot of the people that post in off-topic. Back on subject, Yes it is a inside joke that MIGHT send people away from the forum but it also might not. If people really want it changed so bad then post some ideas and maybe the staff will pick up on it.
