    i have a problem.
I want to format my laptop, but when i bought it, there was no cd for vista included.
i think there is a part on my laptop: recovery part or something like that.

how do i format my laptop then?

i think F11 on boot-up opens the menu you need for this.

WAIT WAIT WAIT...you bought a laptop that wasn't already formatted and didn't have the discs? How the hell do they think everyday users can figure out how to do it?

Wait, so is there an OS actually loaded on there?
If not just get a disc for vista / xp whatever.

They are not the same. You will need a vista cd or Install XP.

Almost all PC's and laptops at the moment have their OS on the hard disk (Acer does it, HP, Compaq, Toshiba, Sony etc.)
I work at a computer store so I work with them on a daily basis.

Hitting F11 when your laptop boots, as mentioned before, could do the trick.
Though the key you must hit to get to your recovery partition depends on your laptops brand (sometimes it is F11, F12, repeatedly hit F8 etc.)

When your laptop starts booting you quickly see a few options at the bottom, like the key you must hit for BIOS setup.
Your recovery should also be among those options. If not, contact the laptops brand and ask them which key to hit.

And I hope for your sake you didn't remove the recovery image.
You'd be surprised how many people see their recovery image and delete it "to make more space on their hard disk".

If Nicasus' expert advice fails, I'm sure you could call the computer manufacturer?

A combination of Nicasus and fail is not possible in this dimension.

Not sure if your computer will have this as well but I recently purchased a Toshiba laptop that did the same thing, no recovery disks but there was a recovery partition. But on top of having a recovery partition Toshiba included a program to burn your own recovery disks, all I had to do was simply search the drive for "Recovery" and I was able to find the program. (This was also the case with a Gateway computer that I purchased and ended up returning.) So try looking for a program that is able to do this for your computer, if not a simple Google search should be able to tell you which key or key-combination is required to boot into the recovery partition.
