A song by rise against whats it say to you?

I've listened to this song over and over again to get a meaning from it i was trying to figure out why rise against would sing a song about the war when there about well "rise against" the goverment.

So after listening to the song many, many times MY interpation has come to belive that its a song about how being a solider in the end isn't worth it you lose so much with very few to gain he sings about how do you see the world well i see the world as a well messed up but i see families and just the average day. How does a marine see the world? disaster hardship late nights and the thought of death of humans. In the middle of the song he mainly tells about how the marine will be a hero when he gets back with medals and his flag and how everything will be ok, but towards the end he explains it all, why they wrote this song and he says "the flag will gather dust" which is a statement towards how long will this fame last?, not long and what was to gain out of it long nights of the girl you lost the memories of torture and freinds you lost which finally made sense towards the song and why they wrote it but this is my understanding towards this song.

    Whats yours?

These are my oppions on this song.

The reason why im asking this is because i was watching some youtube videos and they were playing this song on some marines and showing honorship but i just felt as they took it the wrong way.

Rember listen to the song closely and atleast twice before making remarks.

Grow the ------ up MP and Remedy, you ------in' chodes.

Sorry for some people's lack of intelligence Moose. Lmao.
I read it all and understood your grammar, even though it may be a little off.
I love Rise Against but I too can't understand what exactly the true meaning is.

I gathered that like, even though you are saving your loved ones back home, you still aren't doing enoughh, and that no matter what, war will NEVER end. There won't ever be world peace, no matter if you're a Hero Of War.

I prolly misinterpreted some of the lyrics though.
    Nice thread. :)

    Also, don't cry WRONG-FORUM.
It'll be moved eventually, he made a mistake, just like your birth. Ass.

    Is it because I flamed?
What are the rules on flaming now?
Even though there was no racism or personal harm.
    Just immature kids.

    I was on-topic at least?

    Oof?
    It's a song.

    It exists to make money.

It does not exist to spark logical and intelligent debate.

That's what I got anyway, it can join the huge line of cliche war songs either making it seem heroic or thinking they're genius and being cynical.

Actually I bothered to check the lyrics to the song.
    Did you?

The meaning isn't even hidden, it's plain as anything, it's not even cryptic IN THE SLIGHTEST. I mean, right. The guy is saying he's a hero of war on every chorus, yet every verse is basically insulting the armed forces by saying what they actually do and what makes someone a 'hero of war'. When he comes home everyone's going to be proud of him because of his medals, ignoring what he actually did in the war.

They're trying to be deep and make a genius cynical comment on how we promote war as a heroic occassion yet the majority of troops are abusive.
    It's bull----.
