Really simple. It would do you good to read some of the tutorials we have here. Keep practicing though.

I appreciate the input, but I made it to be simple but also giving the the message of the pride I put into my career in the US military.

That's nice, and we're happy for you - the message is good.

    However, there's nothing to C&C - it's a flag with a black background ;]

Ahem. Might I add that text is present? The bevel on the flag doesn't fit with the theme, and the flag is leaning in the wrong direction (imho, although it does sorta draw me back in, it just doesn't feel right)). Removes the symmetrical feeling and detracts from it. Text looks nice, good placement, nice choices. Uppercase helps strengthen it, and it is a nice shade with the background. I would remove the period and exclamation mark though. When I think of the military, I don't think of punctuation like that, it doesn't seem to fit. The exclamation is a little more goofy feeling than serious, and the period just distracts me.

Also, you have a black background, but no borders or anything. It would look tacky anywhere else for that reason.

It does remind me of the military, in a good way :)

There's plenty to talk about. You can always find artistic elements in something as simple as a layout with no graphics.

Good point, and I definitely wouldn't argue against that. Just not the usual form of critiquing around here ;p

Point taken :). I critique graphics outside of school, have critiqued literature in the past, and regularly critique photography in school, so I've probably been exposed to the more critical side of critiquing :). Wish I knew more about basic typography though. All I know is a few fonts on the Do-Not list, and that Arial is a cheap Microsoft knock-off of Helvetica that should be avoided at all costs.

The black on the right side of the flag grows into the border. Aside from that I'd say v2>v1

It's got better. I don't like how the border stops then starts again, but still, nice, and it does remind me of the military
