Let's say I gave up eating fast food twice (or more) a month and put the money into web hosting instead. Where would you guys recommend that I generously give my money?

The hosting will be for a currently non-existent photography business and will require a large amount of space. Any interfaces don't have to be terribly user friendly (that's what having a boyfriend studying programming is for). It needs to be fast, and not one of those hosts that die six months later. In other words, I really just want something cost effective and reliable. Put down names and I'll do some research. If you can personally recommend any, please go into detail of why you are satisfied with them :). In the mean time, I'll do my own research and possibly ask some photographers who they use and how much bandwidth a newbie would need.

Hey, they actually look pretty good. Their certificates are links that check out, even, so that's good :)

I'll find some more to put on my list, but these guys actually look pretty good, and if you've been with them for six months, that must mean something :). Thanks for giving me the link.

WWIII, I'd love to help you, but I'd prefer to be with someone who's been around for at least a year, and I discovered that I'll need ecommerce and such, which means I need a business plan. Jixhosting isn't included in the better business bureau, so that has me a bit worried. I'm actually considering InMotion Hosting. They have an A with the BBB, are top rated among other sites, and appear to have excellent up-time and customer service. I'd be paying $8.95/mo for their power business plan, which I'm willing to do for great service.

We'll see. I won't officially be buying anything until I'm done with winter term, since that's when I'll have finished my web design class. Why pay for it if you can't even customize it? lol

They're probably not in BBB as they're not officially based in north america (albeit thats where the servers are located) if I recall correctly jonas is fron the netherlands

I've had my box for over 2 years. Coming on to 2 1/2 soon. However, you are correct, it is your choice. I'd be happy to give you a temporary trial if you'd like further proof of quality.

Everybody has "unlimited" space nowadays, so that doesn't really matter anymore... I'm going to go with InMotion for the fact that they've gone through the "business boom" already. Most hosting companies die when their company begins to expand faster than they can handle. InMotion has dedicated and VPS servers to handle businesses that use a lot of their bandwidth, which keeps the little guys from being affected. The fact that they have an A with the BBB is also a good sign, because A's aren't terribly common. They are there mostly for businesses, which is good for me and means I'll get ----- support. They're also rated #1 on webhostinggeeks.com. They're more expensive, but I feel that they'll be more honest with me and stick around for a while. I'd rather pay more to get better service than pay little and get crappy everything.

Also, they have it so I can pay monthly, instead of all at once. I wouldn't be able to afford it for well over a year if I had to pay at once -_-

To be quite honest, there is no such thing as having an Unmetered Space / Bandwidth Hosting. Their host has to have a stop point. The one I'm hosting my School Network on at the moment goes up to 22 Terabytes, 22,000 GB (if you're bad at conversion), and so far there hasn't been any mishap of having an Unmetered Amount of Space / Bandwidth. Even if they have their very own Dedicatied Servers right next to their Computers, still there is a stopage point.

Speaking Technically (from Wiki) ... the total data storage capacity produced by humans each year is expected to surpass 1 YB by 2013 . In this context the prefix Y means 280 or ~ 1.21 x 1024.
According to that there isn't enough Things that one Person or Several People can Store that would alternatively lead up to storage of over 20 TB or so, one consumer can barely produce 1TB so yeah..unless all you are hosting are Rips of Movies or Music, which in sense can consume a lot of disk space.

I would give you hosting on my server but as of now there isn't any room to squeeze you in for a good Price. I might upgrade or add couple more TB's to the Server, and if I do I'll let you know.

    Zainx.

+1 to that, haven't had any problems with it at all and their prices are so reliable you won't have to bargain, if you do want a good host, you might want to go with them! :~>

That's why I put the word in quotes ;). But, if they promise unlimited space and you fill it up, you have more wiggle room for negotiations. More likely to get a better price when you upgrade, and InMotion will even bump certain people up temporarily until the situation is resolved. And if you fill it for illegal reasons (rips), they can just boot you off the server

Woah. I just noticed something. On InMotion it says "Disk Space (GB) - Unlimited". If the average space adds up to over a TB, couldn't this be an honest play on words? There's a little issue that you can have over 1000 GB, but oh well.

Anyways, when I get my tax return, I'll probably have enough money to buy hosting. It should be nearly enough to pay my half of school spring term, and I almost have enough money for winter term. If not, I'll convince my mom to let me take out a loan from The Bank Of Mother (hey, no interest that way!)
