I need help fading this. http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/3479/99451727lf5.png I'm printing that on a white shirt so I want to fade the background so it smoothly goes into a full transparency. I tried making the whole background a gradient and doing it that way but i don't know how to create a gradient. How else can I do this? I'm fairly new to design.
Take out the lasso tool, make a selection, feather it, the more you feather the more it fades, invert the selection and delete.
Yeah I feathered but didn't like the effect and wasn't exactly what i was looking for but i'll work with it for now. Thanks for the help.
To fade it with the gradient tool(since it sounds like you only want to do that lol) you have to add a layer mask to the image. The button for the layer mask looks like this: and it's at the bottom of your layers pallete. Layer masks work by how dark or light anything that's painted on it is, if you were to paint 100% white you would get 100% opacity in that spot, if you painted 50% gray you'd get 50% opacity in that spot, if you painted 100% black you'd get 0% opacity in that spot. So to get the gradient fade effect you need to grab the gradient tool(it looks like this:) and use a black to white, or black to transparent(on a white BG) gradient on the layer mask.
well, the way i would do it , is select the rectangles marque tool or the elliptical marque tool and make a selection around the design and then invert it and then feather it .. and then delete, that would be the best way to do this or you could always use the eraser with a soft brush tool and work your way around the area you want to keep
