Alright I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop. The problem I have with it is if I don't have my cooler fan under it this thing gets extremely hot. I mean hot like it'll burn your hand. Any idea why it may be doing this. I think all of the fans are working properly inside.

It's pretty common for laptops to get extremely hot, especially with the CPU, hard drive and all that stuff crammed in there.

I recommend cleaning the dust out of it with one of those pressurized air cans.

There are notebook coolers you can buy to keep the temperature down as well, they don't cost a lot either.

I have a laptop cooler. It does nothing. I googled the problem and it said this problem is common among the dv series of these laptops and that it costs more to fix them then to buy a new laptop.

I don't think it would overheat thought, it's just common for them to get really hot. I read up on the laptop and it seems pretty decent.

    Try this if you're worried.
