Anyone here like Behold... The Arctopus? Pretty good band. They're instrumental, they play some impressive math metal.

I really don't think you know music at all, you took my "BMTH is mathcore" very seriously, you're a ------ing tool.

I'm going to regret this, but what the hell is "Math metal" / "math core"?

I've never ever heard of these sub genre before, what defines them?

Mathcore (also known as technical metalcore, progressive metalcore, or noisecore) is a rhythmically complex and dissonant style of metalcore. Mathcore has its roots in bands like Converge,[1] Botch,[2][3] and the Dillinger Escape Plan.[4] The term mathcore is suggested by analogy with math rock. Both math rock and mathcore make use of unusual time signatures. Math rock groups such as Slint, Don Caballero, Shellac, and Drive Like Jehu have some influence on mathcore, though mathcore is more closely related to extreme metal. Prominent mathcore groups have been associated with grindcore.

Same thing applies to math metal, however I think the term "technical metal" is more widely used. Mathcore is essentially Math Rock influences + Hardcore influences.

Tech Metal/Math Metal is Math Rock influences with progressive metal/heavy metal influences.

(First part I took from Wikipedia)

I listen to the following metal bands

    Behold... The Arctopus
    The Black Dahlia Murder
    The Black Mages
    Dream Theater
    Fantômas
    Into Eternity
    Iron Maiden
    Katatonia
    Opeth
    Rosetta
    Between the Buried and Me
    Abigail Williams

And a few others, but those are more prominent in my library. I also excluded metalcore.

    I prefer hardcore anyways.

    I'm a huge Metallica fan.

Five Finger Death Punch, Sonata Arctica, Sabaton, Slipknot, Soilwork.

I've had a listen to Between the Buried and Me and I have to say it's great, although I think they need a little more variation in vocals to satisfy my Post-Hardcore tastes, but overall it's great. Probably the closest thing to straight metal I listen to.

No it isn't, otherwise it'd be called Emo.

It has cultral origins from Post-Hardcore but it isn't Post-Hardcore.

    OMFG

Bands like Greeley Estates, Oceana, and Hawthorne Heights help define Post-Hardcore.

FYI Post-Hardcore is the technical name for "Screamo"

    Go figure, ------ing tool.
