So I was reading some Grunge Signature tutorials over on another site and on one of the tutorials this was the finished product:

But the guy left out how to do the indented/studded metal looking pattern that he layed over the top of the signature. I tried contacting him about it and he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

So how exactly would I do this? I searched all over the place for how to do different techniques for "patterns", but wasn't able to find anything other than how to make standard patterns such as dots, scan lines, etc. I can't seem to find anywhere that explains how to do more advanced patterns like the one shown above. I'm not even sure if "patterns" is the proper GFX term for it though, I was just searching around on Google in hopes of finding out what the name is for those designs that people put over the top layer of their signature and came across "patterns" which seemed to fit what I had been seeing. Because I've seen several people with that type of thing on the very top layer of their signature, most of the time it's scan lines over a grunge type signature.

Any help would be great, I hope I'm making some sense...it's really difficult to explain what I'm asking for when I'm not even sure if I know the proper term for it.

    -Thanks

    Oof?
    New document, transparent.
Make it the size you want the dots + half the gap to be, make a white-black gradiented circle (or whatever works for you) then save it as a pattern. Once you fill your sig with that pattern the layer is just set to overlay + transparency messed with as need be.

Thanks for the help dude, I tried what you suggested but can't seem to get the look and indentation of the one I'm trying to do. I have no idea how to make it work out better, I tried adding one of my dot patterns in as a texture and then going to Bevel and Emboss and messing with the settings which helped give it an effect of sorts, but still didn't make it look like the one I'm trying to do.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

Make a 4x4 pixel transparent document.
You will have 4 middle squares in a box with a 1 pixel border

In the top left middle square put a black dot, in the bottom right put a white dot, save it as a pattern, then fill on a new layer using the bucket tool.

    Actually, I think it's a 6pixel by 6 document, same principle though.

Even made you a screenshot incase you didn't understand me:

Ill also add: Change the layers blending mode to overlay and toy with the opacity, you'll get the look you desire.
