One thing I noticed was something that made them look very amateur and is easily changed. It was your framing. A lot of photos had the framing dead-center instead of giving it an interesting composition by shifting it a bit. One technique is called the Rule of Thirds. It's where you divide your image into a three by three grid and put points of interest at the intersect points on the grid. Instead of in the center, the subject is off to the side a bit. It adds more interest to many pictures and makes them look more artistic with minimal effort or thought. Wikipedia has a good article on the Rule of Thirds and I would recommend reading it. Think more about composition. Ask yourself how the line works in the image, what shapes compliment each other, how do the colors work, where would the subject be best placed, and how much negative space is desirable. And always, always think about the quality of light. Just giving them a moment of thought can vastly improve how they turn out. I say yes on account of the fact that you need some guidance, and that's what we're here for .
kk thanks for the advice I wikipedia'd it and I read all about it and wiki lead me to this one site http://www.digital-photography-tips.net/di...y-tutorial.html and I looked up the things on there and I understand now what it takes kind of to take better pictures. I didn't know about the rule of thirds and now I see the difference it can make in a picture and different angles that advice was a huge help
Good advice, but I don't focus on digital cropping. Most of my images have zero cropping, and that's because I ask myself what's needed before hand. A good photographer should already know what they do or do not want in an image and will take that into account before hitting the shutter release button. It makes the editing process a lot easier, and some people think that cropping a photo will save it if it's a bad photo - it won't most of the time. So I think we have a majority yes? We all agree that improvement is needed, but who doesn't need to improve? I keep saying that I'll write a tutorial for beginners and then on the elements... maybe I'll have time once break starts (blast that infernal thing called work!).
Contact sheet of all six w/ artist's statement. Final_1 Final_2 Final_3 Final_4 Final_5 Final_6 Final project for my photography class. Every aspect of this project was controlled: camera settings, contrast, color, lighting, image sequencing, composition, you name it. In other words, there were no accidents; some things need improving on for better flow, but this was my first major project so they were missed. Read artist's statement for more information. Was presented in Lightroom 2 slideshow with two contact sheets of 30 images each. Aaaand... Local you have a lot of potential and seem to really want to learn more. congrats your in! i hope we can all help you out. if you have any questions ask them and well try our best to answer them. make sure you keep posting here and keep us updated with pics you take
Woo! Congratulations . And yeah, ask us any questions you like. I'll also give advanced critiques, probably whether you want them or not, so feel free to post pictures on here for critiques as well And guys, I changed my name so it'll match my dA. Some sites didn't allow special characters and others didn't recognize uppercase letters, so it has morphed a bit over the years. The only site I really have the tags and caps in is the site that I created the name for. A waste of creds, but oh well. I think my login is still the same... probably. Hey, I just realized something. You need 250 posts to be in a crew... Think that'll be a problem? I don't know why they have to make this so stinkin' hard to just find the rules. They're scattered all over the place and you can't find all the rules in any one topic. And you have to use the search function to find the topics in the first place.
yeah rules are kinda scattered, but i doubt the 250 will be a problem unless we get a private forum when we get a private forum a mod/admin has to grant you acces to it and if they remember the 250 post rule, you probably won't get acces so hurry up and get some posts
Yeah, what he said . I asked for a topic to be posted in the Crew Information forum with the rules. Sanity Penguin said it would happen, so I guess the confusion will end soon . Two oldies that received post-processing and the thumbs up today: http://socsaint.deviantart.com/art/Multnomah-Falls-105560438 http://socsaint.deviantart.com/art/Somethi...Right-105558818 They didn't make the cut the first time, but I felt I needed one picture from the famous spot of multnomah falls, and the other one I just managed to see something I didn't see before. And accidentally ended up with something completely different (screwed up when editing the channels, but thought it was neat anyway). It was a happy accident that won't be an accident in the future Haha, the topic with all the rules is up now. No more worries ^_^
heh I guess I have to get up to 250 post or more >.< ohwell I'll try to do that this week Time to CnC some peoples sigs and renders so when i get 250 post am I camera Drawn or not?
Of course you are . You've pretty much already got your place, just get those posts up so it's official
Crabbing? This is in the Columbia Gorge, not at the beach . Unless crabbing implies something else with you kids I can't really decide if I like it better B&W or color... I like em both... Multnomah Falls is the second-tallest year-round waterfall in the nation . I'll be sure to capture the whole thing next time with my wide angle
i like the falls one but i kind of agree i'd like to see it in black and white. here's one i took today of a flower we had in our yard this morning i tried to photomanip it a lil to make it pop more. and tada http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k227/loc...awr/omgepic.png
