I've never actually listened to Fall Of Troy. What type of music is it?

Mathcore. Considering the genre exists purely so we can define TFOT, I think it's a safe bet to say they're mathcore.

I was gutted when I missed out on a physical copy, but I had no way of buying it from all the way out here in NZ. So I paid and downloaded a copy. I must say, Thom sounds amazing. He's said that he thinks his vocal ability is 5 to 10 times what it was when Manipulator was released, and I believe him.

Yeah they're mathcore. Kind of a proggy mathcoreish post-hardcore band.

Yeah, I don't really think that any one term can describe them. If you look at songs like Quarter Past, Caught Up and The Dark Trail, you realise what a Jazz influence they have.

Bands like Dillinger Escape Plan, Dance Gavin Dance and heaps of others fit the Mathcore genre, but their influence from non-Hardcore styles are limited. I've seen a lot of bands attempt to imitate the techniques that Thom and TFOT use, such as Polyrhythm, but many cannot go beyond Erratic Rhythm or simply sound unpredictable. They miss the underlying sense of order that TFOT create amongst the chaos.

Enough of my tangent. It's an awesome re-release of some of their greatest work, and it's really put me in the mood for their upcoming studio album.

    BMTH is wayy better.

I hate the term "mathcore", Math + Hardcore? it doesn't even make sense, too many stupid sub genres.

Despite my not being a big TFOT fan, I have to interject here. Mathcore.

Math Rock is the is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock music[1] that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords.(Wikipedia)

Thus, what would we call a similar sound with hardcore roots?

    Mathcore.

Oh, and BMTH is terrible in comparison with TFOT. Way to many fangirls/boys too.

    Agreed.

I do really like the song F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. just for the pure catchiness of it.
