I'm new to the 3d modeling scene and am a noob at it. =P Since this place is a great graphics site, does anyone hvae any good beginner's tutorials for 3ds max?
Custom or Stock(additions to stock still counts)? If you want stock you'll have to find a place that has 4 view (decently proportional)blueprints like the ones they have for cars(example:http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8841/nissan350zdy0.gif) Custom jets can be built from basic shapes, just distorted to look like a jet. Stock jets can be built in a lot off different ways like box modeling or point bridging.
3DS is pretty hard, you might want to start off at some simpler and more user friendly programs like Cinema 4D.
Ha. You ever tried Maya? Now that's hard =D. 3DS Max actually has the most online modeling tutorials made for any 3D program I've ever seen(I mean actual modeling tutorials, not just abstract).
http://tutorialoutpost.com/tutorials/3d-studio-max/modeling Start with the easy stuff at the top, umbrella, dolphin, floppy disk, to get a feel for the tools, then move down a bit, there's a pig, a watch. Then move on to the sword, the charger and keep working through them, when you're confident enough there's a bus at the top which you can do. You can't just rush straight in to modelling cars and vehicles, it takes time.. The worst thing you can do is go from not knowing how to even use tools properly to trying to model a car or something complex, not only is it frustrating it's a waste of time.
Truth^. You end up spending 3 hours+ making a giant crushed can . I know that one from countless experiences: http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/8149/36289631cq5.png That's not even the worst I've done...
