any 5! any 5 at all!

    -------------------------------------------------
    [IMG]
    BT - This Binary Universe
A musical masterpiece, what it lacks in track count it makes up for in quality...full 5.1 sound quality.

The Flashbulb - Soundtrack To A Vacant Life
This is the first album that introduced me to IDM and similar genres and really began my broadening of music tastes.

    Ronald Jenkees - Ronald Jenkees
Damn he's wierd but he makes good music!

Horse The Band - R. Borlax
The appeal of this is like aphex twin, sounds like improv and you can't belive they actually write this stuff but it works perfectly together.

MSI - You'll Rebel To Anything
Not sure why I like this so much it just seems to compell to me :P

    1> Soundgarden - Superunknown

Without it I never would have thought about writing my own music (nor get through school <_<)

2> Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Gets through the High School years, and without it, I wouldn't have broadened myself to a much better world of music. This album is perfection, even today when I listen to it. The band's entire discography alone broaden my sense of music to a more technical and factual form, and it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for this piece of perfection.

    3> Boris - Pink

Aw, man, opened up my world to a world of drone, metal, stoner rock, noise rock, the like. Their quality and diversity of a band eliminates all other contenders. This makes the nu-metal crap look like what it really is - CRAP.

    4> Elliott Smith - XO

Without this acoustic beauty I wouldn't have found the superior artists (like Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, The Mountain Goats etc.) of acoustic artists who show more beauty than anything you'll manage to hear on the radio. This album alone opened my world to genuine, beautiful, and talented music you can't find anywhere else.

    5> Fugazi - 13 Songs

This was a hard one to choose, but while I've always loved rap before any form of rock music (which is why there isn't a rap album here, it's hard to pinpoint what got me into the amazingly diverse genre of music), Fugazi again opened up my world into post-hardcore and emo (the genuine genre, not the crap anybody on first thought would call emo just because of some retarded reason), which eventually lead to screamo (real screamo, not metalcore crap you hear on the radio or what's popular on YouTube/Last.fm, not that crap, talking about City of Caterpillar, Envy, etc.). Fugazi broadened and opened up my world to a clearer definition of the most retarded yet controversial genre today. Love them, they're amazing.

only problem with the downloaded version is that, unless its the 600mb+ DTS version it'll be downscaled to 2 channels only. I'd advise either getting the DTS version or buying it at a store to get the full appreciation out of it. Plus with the retail version, each track had a short film made for it and you get the DVD with teh album...awsomesauce!

Or just imagine how it would be on the surround sound system...which already seems beyond awesome.

I was going to download the 600mb version but then remembered that I don't have a surround sound system hooked up to my pc.

I'll get the real thing when I get surround sound :]

    [In Respective Order]

Tool - 10,000 Days: This god damn album was probably one of my most favorite albums of all time so far because of it's reach out into a different area of progressive rock. It got a bit softer in some spots, and then had some of those hard-rock spots that could familiar with older Tool songs/albums. I've listened to this album for at least 24 hours total since I got it two years ago. Songs that inspired me a lot were 10,000 Days, Vicarious, Right in Two, and Rosetta Stoned. It'll be with me 'till death.

Protest the Hero - Fortress: Hardcore/math/death/techinical rock. I don't know exactly how to describe this album or this exact genre of rock, but I put between progressive-metal and opera. :D The lyrics are very gritty if you manage to understand them, and the singers voice throughout is fantastic that I find myself trying to duplicate voice (and fail miserably). This album made me look a bit wider for more bands that have a lot of meadlies and odd/off timings. The Dissentience is one of my favorites due to it's odd rythm, the meadlies (of course!), and the speed.

Mudvayne - The End of All Things to Come: This is actually the first album I really ever got my hands on and listened to very often and still today. It has great lyrical content, some great confusing drum beats, and nice heavy guitar riffs. I struggle to drum to a lot of the songs that I've tried on this, but I have a load of fun. Mudvayne introduced me to the math/progressive genre of rock. It inspired me to also try and look through lyrical content to understand at least a big part of what the meaning of a certain song is. God damn, I love this album. Look Trapped in the Wake of a Dream up on youtube and just listen to the first 30 seconds or so. I love the weight of the beat.

Thrice - Vhiessu: Thrice made a huge change when they made this album. It was made after their Artist in the Ambulance which was more of a hard-rock album. This album is more of an experimental genre. They combine a use of piano and both heavy and soft guitar. It's just ------in' awesome. Music Box was pretty bad ass and is my favorite song off it. Whole album introduced me to Still Remains (with guidance).

Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety: Christian Hardcore was brought to my attention when my brother put this on in his car. An excellent combination of great clean vocals and ruff scream vocals. It's got a pop kind of sound to it, but only a small bit. It made me think, "God damn, christian music can freakin' rule. I can barely tell it's even christian at all anyway". Yep, this band is the best Christian band I've heard yet. I've only heard a few though so whatever, I ain't gonna go browsing forever. Only got so much cash.

Bonus -- Still Remains - Of Love and Lunacy: Screaming, it ain't all bad. It's sometimes the ------in' sauce.

Hehehe, learning to download everything in FLAC changed the way I listened to music more than any one album. That was years and years ago now. All my 10,000+ songs in my music collection is FLAC now.

FLAC is a lossless audio codec. It has a very high bitrate which means the actual audio quality is far superior to an .mp3

So many times I've installed high end audio setups in cars and home theater setups, yet people are determined to play low bitrate (<125kbp/s) and .mp3 files through an iPod, and don't actually realise that that'll be a bottleneck in sound quality.
