Should I get a zoom lens or a prime lens and if possible could someone show me a good one preferably under $700. I would like to be able to take 1/4000 and 30 second shutter speed shots so a large aperature range is needed. This will be going on a Nikon D90, so I need a Nikkor lens.

Sweet :D. Tell me how it is. Also... let me know what the viewfinder is like. I'm looking for a modern camera with a retro viewfinder (split view with blurry peripheral if it's out of focus). I haven't seen any how I want except for on a $30,000 camera, and even then, it was only half of what I was looking for... and out of my budget. They don't make them like they did in the 70's

    I just ordered myself a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom :D

You mean where there is like a circle in the middle with a line horizontally across running through it, inside the circle is crystal clear and the outside is blurry? My parent's old slr has that.

I'd go with an 8 gig if you don't plan on cleaning up your card for a while. It's like 1500 regular photos at 10 megapixels. So at a 12 Mp you should get about 1200-1300 photos on an 8 gig card.

Yup, 8GB is pretty cheap now compared to what it used to be. Get the SanDisk Ultra II if you can, I believe that they write faster than the standard ones, although I haven't looked into it. But it's really nice not to have to delete your photos too often.

And yeah, that's the viewfinder I want. I have it in the Nikkormat EL that I stole from my dad, but I can't find them on any dSLR's. I don't know, they might be too costly to include in the build nowadays. I inadvertently found something someone wrote about changing the viewfinder on their EOS to a split-image one on their own, but I wouldn't know how to go about that, nor do I want to remove anything from my dad's camera.

These are the most exciting pictures you'll ever see:

Sadly, only one of those was for school. I'm just weird and like to take odd photos. Especially when they make people look ugly. I don't know why. My mom won't let me photograph her anymore because I like the candid shots over posed. I keep trying to sneak a good shot of her in her PJ's, but she always makes me delete them.

Question: has anyone in Camera Drawn taken any photography classes? High school classes do count.

Sorry for the double post, but this is about Camera Drawn, and not just cameras :P

We need to release a resource pack every two months. Resources can include your photos with all layers included and properly labeled, tutorials, or stock photos. I guess art packs count as well, but I don't know. Maybe we can release an art pack of our photos one rota, and a resource pack of stocks and tuts the next. We'll see.

Anyways, you need to be somewhat active and consistent in this, otherwise there's not much reason for you to be on the member list. If there's a problem, let us know and I'm sure something can be worked out.

If you guys have any questions, feel free to post them here and I'll see if I can answer :)

I think our resource pack should include some sort of tutorial on photo manipulation or something. We should also have some sort of guidelines for pictures to take to this pack.

I bought my D90 yesterday and have taken about 400 pictures so far so I am sure I can contribute some stuff.

Well, I know I could write tutorials on how to operate a camera, point and shoot as well as dSLR. I can also write tutorials on workflow and basic rules about editing photos, and then launch into more in-depth tutorials on photomanipulation. I can write about basic composition. I just don't want to write a ton of tutorials and throw them into one pack. That would be rather tiring, and then we'd run out of content for the future :P

I mean just like one tutorial a few examples and some pictures by other artists for each pack.

Edit: and geez is the D90 ever good in the dark. I took some strange photos tonight and there is nearly no noise.

Members don't post much in this crew. I am starting to get some nice shots with my camera so I will post some up when I can.

I check it all the time, it kinda bugs me when it goes inactive for so long >.<. I like looking at what people are doing, after all.

How do we get our own forum? We need more active people.
