Are you going to do a system restore? There should be an option that allows you to back up your data.
If you're reformatting (reinstalling windows) then everything on your harddrive will be wiped, so you need to find a place to put your music. DVD's, external hdd, drive partition etc.
Yah, do that one They should be in the Music folder (by default) C:\Documents and Settings\(Your username)\My Music\Itune Music\ Unless you changed it like me =] just copy all of them to flash drive, also in Itunes you could always go to File > Library > Export Library (make sure you are on the Music section of your music, not any other thing like a 90's music or anything.) Example Code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Major Version</key><integer>1</integer> <key>Minor Version</key><integer>1</integer> <key>Application Version</key><string>8.0</string> <key>Features</key><integer>5</integer> <key>Show Content Ratings</key><true/> <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Admin/My%20Documents/My%20Music/music/</string> <key>Library Persistent ID</key><string>22612B273CFC1A7B</string> <key>Tracks</key> <dict> <key>2366</key> <dict> <key>Track ID</key><integer>2366</integer> <key>Name</key><string>Still In Love With You</string> <key>Artist</key><string>Al Green</string> <key>Composer</key><string>Al Green, A. Jackson & W. Mitchell</string> <key>Album</key><string>I'm Still in Love With You</string> <key>Genre</key><string>R&B</string> <key>Kind</key><string>AAC audio file</string> <key>Size</key><integer>3161524</integer> <key>Total Time</key><integer>195733</integer> <key>Disc Number</key><integer>1</integer> <key>Disc Count</key><integer>1</integer> <key>Track Number</key><integer>1</integer> <key>Track Count</key><integer>9</integer> <key>Year</key><integer>1972</integer> <key>Date Modified</key><date>2006-12-14T21:50:26Z</date> <key>Date Added</key><date>2008-07-03T19:01:31Z</date> <key>Bit Rate</key><integer>128</integer> <key>Sample Rate</key><integer>44100</integer> <key>Normalization</key><integer>590</integer> <key>Persistent ID</key><string>22612B273CFC1A92</string> <key>Track Type</key><string>File</string> It'll be way longer than that (depending on how much music you have) It should give you a Music.xml file When you format your hdd, install Itunes and click File > Library >Import Playlist And choose the Library file from your flash drive, Then you should be able to directly copy your files from your flash drive to the itunes music default folder without the trouble of allocating them in itunes =] But I'm not completely positive about the import part, I know it is possible but i dont remember exactly how in Itunes 8 Alternativly, When installing Itunes, Check 'Keep my Music Organized' Install Itunes, Close it (if it opens) Copy all your music to the default itunes folder, Open Itunes, It should rebuild your library, If it does not goto File > Add Folder and choose the default Itunes folder Good luck
