Broken is right realism has no skill needed and no effort I could pull out a realism tag in 2 seconds But yes we all have our opinions so no point in fighting
Ok. Yeah, you're not a bad drawer/painter. Maybe Artistic Talent was the wrong word. Graphic Designer Talent
My art teachers wanted me to go into graphic design, but I chose Biology because there are more oppurtunities and more money available.
Art doesn't directly relate to graphics, at all. Except for the basics of creativity, Graphic Design has a more direct purpose, clients need satisfying, techniques need learning (As with Art of course). Good Artist does not = Good Graphic Designer.
Not taking sides But it really isn't a good argument to just say realism takes no skill. I've seen manips that have been stunning, really depends on the designer. The C4D style at times is less "skillful" than realism. I know of some who place in a few C4Ds, blurring, sharpening and just flip the tag and maybe a few adjustments. If you think about it, whether if you want to compare the C4D and realism style they are both in the same boat. Whether your using multiple C4Ds or multiple stocks, you still didn't make anything from scratch which can easily consider both as no "skill." But really who cares? Designing is all about the eye candy. If the outcome looks good, that's all that should matter. Since you can't really judge on how much effort a person put into a tag unless you have the PSD and see for yourself.
I disagree, I think what you put into the piece counts for something. And usually you can tell how complicated a piece is by looking at it.
Agreed with Falcon Punch. Something that looks good but required minimal effort (simply because of good looking stocks) should not be warranted as a good tag.
But as Pink already said, some people DO put a lot of work into Realism tags (I know I do) and I sometimes (not always) put less work into c4d and other style banners. So then it DOES become what looks better, which is entirely up to opinion, but IMO Realism looks better. It's all about opinions.
Yes, some people do put a lot of effort into sigs, but you're not one of them. New people are so obsessed with getting praise for their tags, that every single time they make something, they take the easy, safe way out and make a simple realism tag. Looking at your current, it looks like you put the render in front of the stock, put a lens flare with some white soft brushing over top, did a bit of burn/dodge to match the render's lighting, and added some absolutely terrible text to top it off. I really don't like attacking people over their design skills, but I've seen your non-realism tags, and the skill level in them is far below average. Definitely not up to the level of skill of a three time SOTW winner. You, and all the other realism whores are actually stunting your own growth as designers by not experimenting with your own or more original styles, and I'm sure you'll find that when the trend of realism ends, so will all appreciation of your limited skills. /end rant
But so true. So very true. He's right though, there's people on GR (Pulse/Draven etc.) who are genuinely good tag, people. And that shows in their realism tags as they actually display creativity and originality as opposed to stock + render = ---. (- colours/lighting). Yet the majority of people putting realism tags out really aren't good at anything else, because you don't learn the basics by doing realism. Realism doesn't extent into LPs either. Which really is where people should be heading. PS : Neuron ------ of. I'm tired of it. Don't see how I'm the arrogant one when I'm at least providing reasoning. Instead of calling everyone in the thread an idiot. Hypocrite.
 we all have to start some where, if thats how people get used to photoshop, lighting, shadowing, scale, gathering stock, etc etc i dont see what the problem is.... in 6 months there will be another thread with people bitching about the "new style" at the end of it all, you have your opinion and thats all it is your own opinion.
You're the easiest person to piss off. Seriously. If he likes realism, let it be at that. What's the point in bashing him? You're not going to change him in any way. He's still going to do what he likes to do. You're the one who needs to fuck off and let people continue doing what they're doing. So what if it's ----? They have nothing to prove to you. So please stop spewing opinions out of your ass, they aren't fact. Stop acting like they are and grow the fuck up.
