The news about the new macbook is at the top of Engadget, Gizmodo, and Digg. Why is this such a big deal? Apple got rid of one button, added an nVidia chip, and all of the sudden it's a completely new amazing "beautiful" product. And it $2000! Are you kidding me? What's the appeal here? Why would you buy this little box with the same exact operating system, and almost the same exact parts.

At first I thought people just buy Apple products because it has become cool to buy apple products, but maybe someone wants to enlighten me?

www.apple.com. Body is machined from a single piece of aluminium. Very nice.

But does that matter? No not really. In fact, I would rather have a regular laptop case, just so Apple wouldn't have an arbitrary excuse to keep the price so high. For the past 2-3 laptop updates they've been doing this kinda crap that doesn't really matter, and they've been charging more for it then when they were releasing normal basic laptops. And they have been getting away with it because people keep praising this kind of minor tweak like it a revolution of some kind,, and that's what pisses me off.

    Wow you're closed minded.

Apple are in business to make money. Why should they cut the quality of their products just to keep you happy. You probably would make up another excuse not to buy Apple even if they halved their prices.

I for one would always take a MacBook over any other laptop.

I would too but come on 2000$ for a 15" laptop is kind off a rip off, I can build a super PC with a 24" widescreen for the same amount of cash...

A super PC, you say? 24" widescreen you say? That's a pretty impressive laptop. How well does it run OSX? I'm sure all that Mac based native goodness is delicious. Do people turn their heads as they walk past you sitting outside a cafe browsing the latest of greatness via AirPort?

    You, sir, are a genius.

Ironic, but why? It's not for the parts, because the parts are weaker them in most other laptops of comparable price (Newegg doesn't even have laptops over $1500). It's not because its so affordable. It must be because of the design and interface (and the Apple logo), but what I'm trying to say is that the design and interface haven't really changed since 2-3 versions back. And a lot of the design and interface are just gimmicks for people to fool around with until they become boring. I've always thought that Apple's ace was always OS X, but now that people have found [MANY] ways to get it over to non-Apple laptops, I though Apple would slowly die.

And I just love the golly golly gosh darn marketing apple does:
"The rigid aluminum keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers. The result? Pure typing bliss." - As opposed to any other laptop where the keys have been glued to the sides of the monitor.

"The first thing you might notice — or not notice — is the missing click button. Now the entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere." - Any laptop made in the last 4-6 years has that.

"Or switch to the discrete NVIDIA 9600M GT graphics processor for the fastest, smoothest, clearest graphics yet." - Any decent ($900-$1500) laptop has this little chip.

Sorry, but your post made no sense AT ALL.
"Do people turn their heads as they walk past you sitting outside a cafe browsing the latest of greatness via AirPort?" - If you mean to say that you would buy the mac to show off to strangers walkign down the street you are a ------ing idiot. Sure apple may have good design, but they also cost so damn much for weak performance in commparison to other laptops. AirPort, i take it that is merly Wi-fi branded by apple?

Well, I don't think that a mac is for everyone. Meaning that you might not be they're target market if you think it costs too much. They charge high prices because they can, and people keep buying Macs. I think the marketing of Apple is genius. Not the words they use to describe the keyboard, but how about putting an apple in every movie/tv show that comes out of hollywood. The thing is that everybody watches movies, people see apple computers on screen constantly and then they assume that they need one.

Apple has a brand logo that everybody recognizes and that is a huge reason for their popularity. (I think iPod's may have something to do with it too.)

But then again Dell done/do a similar thing with their monitors in various tv shows/movies. Which is why msot of their monitors have Dell printed on the back in big lettering too :) the iPod deffo pushed apple in the market.
