Windows Vista Boot-up Issues

Forget my last thread that I had a few days ago.

Here is the whole story:

I press my Blue Button on my Lifebook N6420 Fujitsu Notebook.
First wait 10 seconds for the fujitsu BIOS Startup bar to load up.
Then 5 seconds of black screen.
Microsoft Corporation text with the Green Loading bar shows up.
After the Green Bar ... 1...2...3... .. .. 10 .. ... 29 ... 30..31 .. Last Time I counted. That takes up about a min to min / half.
Then Black Screen with nothing on it for about 15-20 Seconds.
My Mouse Pointer Shows and stays there for about 25 seconds.
Then 5 second Black Screen and finally the Windows Vista Logo Shows up with my user name for me to log in.

Now can you guys figure our the problem here?
It takes freaking forever for my computer to start up. I have a Dual Core 2 1.66Ghz with 2GB Ram enough for vista to start up in seconds...but noo....it takes freaking forever.

I have only two things in MsConfig which is Avast and Apoint Device for my Internal TouchPad.
And most of my services are disabled. It started up XP within 20 Seconds ...

Try defraging your hdd first,

might be cluttered with files

also i believe you said before you have 5200 rpm hdd right? if not let me know, the hdd speed can effect many things

go download Microsoft Bootvis (google it)
if you cant find a tut on how to use it ill write out a quick one, just let me know.

download tune-up utilities (tune-up.com). The trial is a full version for 30 days.
run the system optimizer, registry cleaner, one click maintenance, and open the system configuration and modify things that you think might help.

then get back to me

if you're talking about boot vis, its not a viurs lol

its a program made by microsoft (outdated now) that is used to place the boot files in order to boot the quickest.
google it, wiki it, even goto the m$ website, sure you'll find it

 

It is not a virus or a haxor w/e you call it.

I've had vista since Saturday... The laptop itself is a year old.

I have Auslogics BootSpeed which has a Defragmenter, Registry Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, and One Button Checker (similar to One Click Maintenance in Tune Up Utilities).
I use the BootSpeed every day before I go to sleep and one click is usually most of the time when I have nothing else to do :lol:

It is a 4200 160GB HD. I know it is horrible. But the laptop is a 17" and weighs around 9.8 Pounds; hence, I really do not want to spend any money on it though I can change the HD to a 7200 for $80 USD. I just want to get rid of it asap, that might not happen in the next 6 months or so.

Anyhow, I will download M$ BootVis and see where things go from there.

Furthermore, I have had the laptop on all day, just that instead of shutting it down fully I am placing it into sleep mode, which does not chew up any percent of my power, and mostly when I open the lid up it comes on within a sec or so. That way I can have it on for the next 53hours as my Battery said if it were to be in sleep mode.

That is coming in handy as of now until I find a way to make my Turn On's faster..


Let me experiment with bootvis and will get back to you then...

Edit: Bootvis is only for Windows XP. I am using Vista :mellow:

Not big of a difference. My boot time is still the same 3 min or so. In XP it was a matter of 30 seconds or less.

I wouldn't mind going back to XP just that I saw people with Vista Everywhere and heard it was faster and ---- (though I know it is good but I don't like it that much)
Then I switched to vista after my crash.

I don't know I might go back to XP Later on this week, maybe on friday ... though I dunno

It doesn't really matter to me which OS I use. Just till the point where I get my work done. I had a Macbook Air when it came out, didn't like it so gave it to my dad for his work stuff since he is on the move all the time. Had XP before on this laptop and my other desktop has XP --- x64 on it that works well. Been using Vista for a while now with this laptop and my brother's GS2 Laptop. So till I get my work done I really don't care what operating system I use.
Except I won't install Linux on this one since I use it almost all the time in school for well classes for CS and Java and C++ and C and Visual Basic. So kind of keeping that one at college only...

If you say I will switch back to XP since it was faster in a way!!!

You might have overheated it and so you are screwed it will always load this way. Has it ever felt extremely hot before that you can remember? Hot enough that you didn't want to hold it very long because it burned your hand? If this has ever happened then that is your problem and it has been degrading ever since.

Also do you only have the one operating system on the laptop? Because if you have multiple operating systems on the laptop you could be having a memory reading issue with incompatibilities.

 

lol you could always switch to xp and get a vista transformation pack to make a vista replica on xp

and whoever told you vista is faster should be punched in the Jugular.
Its only faster for those who KNOW what to do,
I ran vista with no problem, but there are so much things i disliked about it so i went back to XP. I enjoy Xp much more

also, you might want to disable some services,
but don't do it if you don't know what to do there :X

Oh for randomness sakes:
here is a little easter egg some people might not know about in vista

If you click start > run
type in msconfig

on the msconfig screen that opens click on 'boot.ini'

look for the 'No GUI Boot up' and check it.
Click okay, and apply the settings, reboot and enjoy

(no it does not make the boot screen disappear, it changes it)

It's only slow because he has a 4200rpm HDD, which probably has about 4-6mb buffer... = SLOOOOWWWWW.

You should just leave your laptop on 24/7.

Powersaving mode?

 

Going back to XP, while definetely faster, has it's pros and cons.

The upside being familiarity with the OS and it being faster.

The downside is, XP is quickly getting out-of-date and soon, you will have to get a new laptop which will all come with Vista as standard.

Swap back to XP and enjoy it while you can...once your laptop becomes defunct, say hello to Vista.

I don't know, this computer has always been slow for some damn reason.

In addition, the laptop does go up to really hotness under its butt (the fan) where sometimes if I have it on for a while it just kills me at school or home to hold it from that part.
Don't mind that but the problem from what I can see is definitely the hard drive. Other than that XP Runs like a ------ing lightening bolt on this machine.

I don't think there has been a time when I loaded up XP on this machine, it hasn't been great. haha...

You can do the Boot Screen in XP Also, but you get a black screen for all costs.

So far the Sleep function works fine for me. The computer can stay on sleep for 55 hours at 100% Battery Life. Though I only need it to sleep for 5 hours through school b/c that is when I need it.

hm...Going back to xp then?
