Hate Phychosocial (Not sure if it's right spelling but meh), only decentish thing about it is the starting riff. I dislike All Hope Is Gone, just wasn't liking it. Those are the only two songs I've heard, album is in the post for my bro anyway and I'll get it off of him to see whether the rest is good or not.
Some songs are good from Slipknot, but they should definetely get rid of a few of the guys, like the turntables and the percussionist. They would pretty much be the same with just 4 or 5 people. But they seem to be pretty smart for gettin' all they're friends in on the band, they make some big bank. Psychosocial has pretty good clean vocals, but the screaming is pretty bad. The guitars weren't so dueled for some multi-effect, so they weren't that great. But still some great ---- to go moshing too.
I play music. What's your point? Having more people = making more sound? I hear as much sound in Slipknot as there is in other bands like Killswitch Engage or Fear Factory. Not to "patronize" you, but I don't think you know as much about music as you think you do.
I never said they were making more sound with more people, but obviously the extra members will improve/change the sound of the track so that, although it may be hard to see why they are needed, if they were absent it would sound noticably different. Case in point: Bassists in a lot of bands play along to the exact same riff as the guitarists and will be largely unnoticable to someone not listening out for them, but remove the bass track and the song will sound different. So yeah, the other members are important, even if they may not do as much as the main members.
Yet there's a slew of artists who by themselves, creates a sound superior, more unique, and certainly a more diverse sound than Slipknot has to offer, by far. Numbers do not increase quality in music at all. It's what the brain in those individual members have and the ideas they decide to implement that creates something, whether original and great, or stale and awful. Eight members means more arguments in the studio, not a better outcome all of the time.
I am not saying at all that more people in the band makes their music BETTER, it's purely up to opinion whether you like them or not. I am saying their music would not be exactly the same without the extra members. Oh, and there are nine of them, not eight.
Personally, I think 5 people could make the same sound. I listen, and I don't hear any of the turntables, custom percussion, or the sampler. Maybe not the EXACT same sound, but real close to the same sound. Close enough that you probably couldn't tell.
Sorry buddy, but if you can't hear those then you haven't listened to Slipknot enough. Custom percussion is in songs such as "Duality" and "The Blister Exists" Turntables are in "Eyeless" Samplers are used in "Frail Limb Nursery", "742617000027", "(Sic)", and many others.
