Broken Glass

I went to this sight:

Broken Glass Tut

And followed the tutorial. When I got to step 7 (Select two layers and then click on Mask Layer), the Mask Layer button had a circle with a line through indicating I couldn't use it with the two layers selected, but according to the tut I can.

How can I use the Mask Layer on two selected layers?

thats not what its telling you... create a different layer mask, on every layer.

I just created a clipping mask instead and that worked perfect. Maybe that's what the person meant, anyway, I got it to work.
