    So I come home, log on Firefox.. Momentarily I'm attacked by a spyware program or whatever.. It has basically taken over my wallpaper..

    It also installed itself on the computer as "Antivius XP 2008"

    So I download CCleaner, and removed almost 60 MB of spyware on my computer (lol don't ask how it got there)

    So anyhow this program is still on my computer harrassing me.. It won't uninstall and I'm getting frustrated..

    TL;DR = Too long; Didn't read, laymans terms, he was too lazy to offer proper assistance.
    I bothered to read the problem at hand before a generic response, mkay, I suspect that you have a varient of ZLOB, a nasty little app that can be extremly annoying, first off download, install, update and run a full system scan with all the below:
    AdAware
    Spybot S&D
    AVG free edition

    After these have finished, run these few online scanners, you'll need to run these using internet explorer to allow them to run
    Trend Micro's housecall
    Panda Activescan
    F-Secure online

    All of these scans will take a long time but time is a sacrifice for loosing all your data.

    OK, generic bit follows:

    Then run hijackthis and save a log.
    Run combofix in safemode, these instructions may help(Combofix instructions)
    when back in normal running mode run HJT again and make a second log.
    Post again using this template

    Code:
    =======================

    ***ORIGINAL HIJACKTHIS LOG***

    =======================

    ***COMBOFIX LOG***

    =======================

    ***HIJACKTHIS LOG AFTER COMBOFIX***

    =======================

    Or you could save yourself the trouble and follow this guide for removing this specific spyware.

    http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/xp-antivi...spyware-removal

    If you still have problems xlink has the right idea with partitioning the HDD, and moving all your stuff over. Then when you reformat, you just reformat the partition with Windows.

    Gah well thanks so much guys, I really do appreciate the help.. But I became very frustrated and just decided to reformat..

    I was up all night trying to reformat, I was getting errors while XP was trying to install, so I had to re-reformat this morning and thankfully it worked.. Plus I needed a fresh start, I saved most of my important GFX stuff on a blank disc (thanks Suspect)

    Really it was my fault I caught that virus. I'll be honest, I never use spyware programs unless I catch a major virus like yesterday. But I should really start using them to prevent stuff like that ever happening again.

    So you guys mind recommending a good anti-spyware program that can give me safe browsing online without slowing down the computer?

    It's a Rogue program.

    It's really fustrating.

    I already deleted it.

    Download http://www.superantispyware.com/

    Run it, and delete it.

    Since you can't change your desktop background this should be the Registry Key so you can show the tab again.

    1. Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT and press Enter
    2. Expand to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
    "NoDispCPL"=dword:00000001

    Modify it so it's value is "0"

    Hopefully that could help.

    Edit: Reboot your computer after deleting the Rogue Spyware Program/registry edit. Try safemode if you like.

    To be honest I just use whatever FF provides. I think I run a virus scan once a month. I've never had a spyware problem. I ditched IE a long time ago.

    if your using spybot make sure to enable teatimer, it will protect your registry from all kinds of nasties
    also, consider investing is a good antivirus, some of the best around at the moment are avast, NOD32 and Kaspersky. The third being my personal favorite and in recent tests offering the best protection.
    MalwareBytes is also very useful
