Why is it that when the United States invades Iraq (without a real plan past the war at best, and under completely false pretenses at the worst), it's wrong? It's condemned across the world. Russia just invaded Georgia over a secessionist region, to unite with their Ossetian "brothers" (read: control the oil pipeline going to the West), only beginning a cease-fire after they've completely strangled Georgia and its economy. Where is the condemnation? In my opinion, both wars are/were wrong. Iraq, because we had no place there in the first place; it's not our job to knock down every leader, however bad, that opposes us. Georgia, because this is just plain thuggish behavior; there's no reason for the Russians to be in Georgia apart from that pipeline. I'm just asking why people aren't lining up to condemn the Russians like they have the United States. By the way, did anybody see the US ambassador to the UN speaking, saying that the days of regime change are "over in Europe?" Nice dodge.
Because in Russia, country condemns you. Honestly, the Olympics and everything happening, we even missed that massive explosion in Toronto. It's the perfect way to distract the media away from stuff like that. Honestly, I think the reason why nobody is ganging up on Russia is because of the timing of things. Just look at the timing of things, Iraq was while 9/11's effect on the country were at a peak, people were paying attention and noticing what the hell was going on. Russia is doing this while the main super powers are just sitting there watching crap happen in Beijing. It's simply the timing of the things.
Ain't gonna happen. We've got nukes. Russia's got nukes. NATO's got nukes. That's a big part of why we didn't go to war when they were the Soviet Union. We fought the Cold War in places like Korea and Vietnam instead of Moscow or New York, using other nations to advance democracy (or whoever would support us...)/communism (or whoever would support them...). That, and neither the United States nor NATO has the stomach to start losing people over some small former Soviet nation.
And a second-rate military with deteriorating equipment, including those precious nukes. Which doesn't really matter; once something goes nuclear, it gets bad for everybody, second-rate or not. Lots of people die, and nobody has the stomach for it. And two nuclear powers won't go to war because that option is there, and that option scares people.
that's the way things work, the only way u could really have a war and not hurt your own people is do it at a place where the opponent cant do anything to stop. thus getting very few deaths and on the thing in iraq, there was no real point in going there, usa only did so to stabilize the oil, we all know the people from 9/11 were from arabia
Yeah way to stabilize the oil. Shot up to friggin' $4 a gallon. Russia has more of a reason to invade Georgia than we did to Irag. They want their territory back.... Irag had "Weapons of mass destruction". I'm not saying it's right, but I say who cares. It'd be nice if we would just stay out of other people's business for a while. I wish we were more like Canada. Just lie dormant for a couple hundred years.
who's saying the conflict isnt being condemned? the administrations response has been forceful at least.
I don't see any thing on the news that says, "Damn Puutin (sp?) is THE WORST PERSON EVER!" Because, they aren't democratic, is why. It isn't against their nature to attack other countries. It is against the nature of a democratic person, to forcefully take over a country. (IE making the democratic society hypocritical meaning, an easy target for people who have nothing better to do, then sit behind their desks and whine...)
Ossetia has been part of Georgia since the country was formed. The Ossetians just happen to want to secede. Never was Russian, unless you play the ethnicity card (which makes a lot of people "Russian").
For one it was wrong for the US to invade Iraq because it was all a setup. Anyone can tell you the twin towers was just another demolition project. The towers themselves were made to withstand those types of attacks as stated by the maker of them. But anywho that's another story that I'm not going to get into. -_- As for the Georgia incident taking place.. I feel as if no one really isn't standing up to it because we all know that getting into a war with Russia will just bring on a WWIII. While if Russia wasn't a super power and was barely any harm I'm sure this whole conflict would have had others step in by now.
