I'm considering buying an xbox 360 and need to know what the return process is.

If I buy off of ebay, will it still be covered? Reason I'm asking is because I want to get it cheaper but I don't know if it will still be covered if it RRoD's on me or something like that.

Do I need a receipt of sale with return or will I be all good?

Are there any other disadvantages to buying off of EBAY that you can think of?

    Thanks in advance.

I will be buying the 60 gig as to ensure that I get all the newest parts. (instead of the ones that RRoD -------annually)

    I doubt it.

Phone MS and ask them yourself.

    Wouldn't you like to know
with any platform from Nintendo Playstation to Xbox proof of purchase is a priority. When I had to send back my ps3 they asked for the original receipt and without it they would not accept the warranty.

pretty much they would fix it but i would have to pay for all the cost.

So the dilemma here is, is it worth it for you to buy it off ebay just to save a few bucks?

    IMO no....

Don't buy a system off ebay. If you want one for cheap go to your local eb games or gamestop or whatever you have a buy a used one. You will probably save just as much money as buying one from ebay + shipping. If I were you I would invest in a new console though. Much more safe, and no chance of you losing your money (unless of course you get so angry at the lag in Halo 3 that you kick in your xbox).

As for the return process, I have no idea. But I am sure it is pretty much a send-in, wait two weeks, and a send-back, as most hardware issues are these days.

Return process is, you call them/ contact them. They send you a return box with postage paid (2 weeks+), place your xbox (without HD in it) in the box, send it to MS and wait for them to fix it (4 weeks+). No joke, it takes forever.

Why don't you buy an elite off of Ebay? That way you don't need to worry about the red rings and you'd never have to send it to M$.

    Doesn't mean it can't happen.

regardless I don't feel like spending the extra money. I still want a warranty and if I can get it on any of them via ebay, I will.

I just called and they confirmed that it was completely covered without receipt. This means that there's really no reason not to buy off of ebay. (To me, anyways.)

Not really sure about the RRoD on the Elite. I just read an article about that. (Click Here To Read).
Though, I'm not really sure what to think of the RRoD. I've had my 360 3-4 years and nothing has ever happened.

ok i have 4 360's go back to ms for the RROD and i have never had to show proof of purchase.
What they check is that it has been registered with the sererial number for that fault you are covered for 3 years

But i wouldnt by 1 from ebay they a pretty cheap now any way plus you wil get a new machine.
