Okay, so a few months back when I moved in my roommate wasn't married, but had the intent and I knew in advance, it was cool, I don't mind his wife, his baby boy gets annoying once in a while, but whatever I knew I could live with it. He has a history with anger issues and its not uncommon to hear him yelling around 7-9am in the morning ish for some stupid reason, but it progressively has gotten worse since I have been living here, eventually I just knew he was gonna go off on his wife (physically I mean, he already yelled at her). Well a few (couple? bad memory) days ago I get home from work, I get in my PJs, go to sleep (I work overnight, so I went to sleep around 7am) and all of a sudden I wake up to his screaming in the kitchen next to my private bath, and then I heard glasses or plates or something being thrown around and shattering, and then I finally hear the inevitable and he hits his wife (very loud smack followed by much crying and no more talking, easy to comprehend from my room). I charged at him from my bedroom and threw him into the countertop and then threw him the the ground and got on top of him with my knife at his throat and told him flat out if he ever laid hands on his wife again I would castrate him on the spot. We stayed there for about 30 seconds while I made sure via eye communication (it was entirely silent outside his wife crying on the floor and me and him breathing heavily) he knew I was serious before I got up and helped his wife up and helped clean up the kitchen of all the glass and stuff on the ground. Now, the odd part happens, I get home from work today, we go over bills, nothing out of the ordinary and for some fucking retarded reason we end up with me sitting in front of him for 2 hours going, 'yup', 'uh huh', 'cool', etc. while he attempts to preach the gospel to me and how it has saved his life (ahah). Ironic much?
That's pretty messed up, but kind of honest and also kind of daring of you to stand up on him like that (He could report you and I don't know where you live but the penalties can be pretty rough though) But I +1 Dinges though
I knew someone would bring that up =P. Couple of things keep me safe though. The first would be that it is legal for you to stand up for someone who could not do so themselves, in the case of domestic abuse where the female is being overpowered by the male you can act in defense on ehr behalf as if it were yourself (or when the male is being beat up by the female, but the court is less inclined to believe a situation as such due largely to the pull females have in domestic abuse situations). The second thing is that there are two eye witness accounts to the account in question, which is enough to prove innocence in a US court of law, and in addition to that I love in a condo complex where you can hear between units if someone is yelling, which would prove as witness accounts to verify he is yelling at least 1-3 times a week. The fact he has a criminal history involving taking anger management class, drug usage, and assault crimes also grealty play a role on my defense, even though he and I share the anger management and assault portions of that (albeit mine are on my juvenile record). Worst comes to worse, in my defense I could rat out a few of the other things I have proof of, but I already know that won't be happening.
As far as I know the law is, you can use the equal amount of force put on you, (I.E like if someone threatens your life you can take their's) So, I'm not sure that you couldn't be charged, as he hit her, and you could have killed him. However, very heroic indeed. I'm impressed.
