Hi. I have a question about loading windows to a new computer. I already have an HDD with windows loaded on it, but I'm completely replacing the motherboard, cpu, video card, and pretty much everything. I just want to know if I will have to reload windows. I heard problems that when you replace the motherboard you have to reload windows, so i would like to know if this is the case usually. Also, how should i load the drivers for the new parts onto my hdd? Just haphazardly, I think that the computer i'm upgrading had some kind of an electrical spike and might be fried, because when i tried to load the BIOS it hangs, and freezes when i just try to go straight to windows. So to sum it up: 1. Will I have to reload windows if i already have it on my hdd? 2. How would i load the drivers for the new parts, if i can't currently put it on the hdd? Thank you!
First of all nice vocabulary...Haphazardly, haven't seen that in a while. Secondly, it depends. As far as I know I re configured my whole system, without replacing the motherboard and it was all fine. You might have to re-load windows but as far as I know it should not be a problem if you are changing motherboards. So in the end, no it should not be a problem and you should not be re-loading Windows on your Hard Drive. Also, just in case something happens, I would back up all my work from your current HDD to an external HDD ..just in case. Lastly, as far as the drivers go. It is simple, once you re-boot your computer with the new configuration and your old HDD, just go to the device manager (Winkey + R -- Type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotes)) and there it will show the unknown devices then just boot in the cd's of those devices and install the drivers or just download them online by right clicking each of the unknown devices and installing the driver. Mostly all the devices like Mobo and everything comes with their own CD and some even come with the driver itself and install automatically. Really simple process...I've done it over 100 times Zain
if you have a new motherboard etc.. it would be smart to just reinstall windows.. @ the drivers part, if you buy it at a normal store, you just get CD's with em
Normal Store? Since when does a store have mood swings??? But every device mostly comes with the drivers. Either on a CD or in the drive. *HINT* USB Flash Drives..no CD But drivers on the USB
Well alright, i understand that it will come with the drivers, however will my computer work without them installed? will i just open up windows and install the drivers? i didn't think that something like the video card would work without first having the drivers installed on the hdd. And sadly, I can't put everything on an external hard drive. The computer it was in has a fried cpu i think or something like that and I don't have another computer to put it in. But really, i'm not sure what's wrong it just nothing will load, not even the BIOS. ps: haha thanks, I do try to use different vocabulary. And Ravr, your sig made me pee my pants laughing. Oh and everything is off newegg. Thanks!
Some ppl buy off online marketplaces, used parts.. etc.. sometimes they dont deliver the box, papers, cd with it Well you can always try to just boot the Harddrive with the new parts, wont do any damage maybe you can save some stuff
actually, it just randomly started to work now, but i had to unplug everything except for the power cord from it, then turn it on and plug everything back in when it was loaded. haha whatever, atleast it works. I guess i'll just copy everythign to my external hard drive just incase.
If you have a laptop available, then buy a Jumper Cable from your local Tech Store like Best Buy or Frys, and use the jumper to connect your HDD to the Laptop then backup everything on your HDD to your external HD. Video Card(s) do not work without the proper driver installation. Since, you are going to be changing everything in your computer except your HD, everything like the Keyboard, Mouse, Motherboard, Video Card, Processor, etc, will come with their own installation CD, all you will need to do is plug them all together like you usually do on a motherboard, and then plug in power supply, boot up your machine and voila...it should all work. Once you log into Windows (it shouldn't be a problem as it might take some time for the very first two boots or so Since, computer needs to identify the drivers / mobo / parts / etc) pop in the CD's that came with everything you bought and just install their drivers. Mostly you should have everything installed by then. If you still see certain parts not working then just go to Device Manager (Winkey + R -- Type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotes)) and then look at the Unknown Devices and tell it to download and install those drivers. It is not that hard of a job dude. Just take it calmly and seriously, as even one mistake can ruin your freaking life j/k But, yeah, should be pretty easy! Hope you have fun, Zain
