how did you ear $10,000 in a month and what for. Your telling me you earned 25% the UKs average wage in less than 10% of the time. anyway, its great to here youve got potential jobs nailed down, again im not saying your a bad designer, your probably great, i just mean that it is possible to get money out of design these days without much effort, clearly your not one of those people But anyway my point was simply that i think youl get shifted onto macs at work at-least, even if you remain loyal to your windows machine as much as you can. anyway there was no need to quote all that information, a link would have been fine lol. Cool that you know such a person as that. as i said im in "training, education and dreaming phase for that industry" so i think thats great. anyways what are you actually saying about this guy in terms of this debate..... you haven't really said anything... just that hes worked on some great motion pictures. Are you saying he uses windows and therefore hes your evidence to the fact that windows is used in hollywood motion pictures? Its unlikely that a visual effects clerk whos using software like Maya, Lightwave e.c.t isnt using a mac. This wouldnt be the point anyway as Visual effects are far from the same thing. Production/Editing is done with Final Cut --- predominantly, Its the future trust me im learning and doing this. "is the future" heres a list of movie edited in final cut --- (Exclusive to mac and therefore edited on a mac). What do you notice about your list and mine? Selected Films Edited with Final Cut --- The Rules of Attraction (2002) Full Frontal (2002) The Ring (2002) Cold Mountain (2003) (Academy Award nominee for Best Editing – Walter Murch) Intolerable Cruelty (2003) Open Water (film) (2003) Napoleon Dynamite (2004) The Ladykillers (2004) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) Super Size Me (2004) Michael Moore Hates America (2004) Corpse Bride (2005) Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story (2005) Happy Endings (2005) Jarhead (2005) Little Manhattan (2005) Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005) The Ring Two (2005) Black Snake Moan (2006) Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) Happy Feet (2006) Zodiac (2007) No Country for Old Men (2007) (Academy Award nominee for Best Editing – Roderick Jaynes) Reign Over Me (2007) Youth Without Youth (2007) Balls of Fury (2007) Burn After Reading (2008) La Linea (2008) The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) Where the Wild Things Are (2009) ...................... and yes, i couldnt find the topic lol
Website design, and its closer to 5000 gbp. When I was out of the job as many of the IRC can vouch for I was nearly broke and down to around $120 or so in my account (kribir and others were willing to send me money via paypal to help me out, it was that bad). In under a month I put over 5 digits into my bank account and have been living quite well since. Regarding using him as a reference, I spoke with him just moments before my post, and asked him what operating system he runs on. He does a lot of freelance animated cgi type stuff outside of Hollywood and for as long as I remember, he'd been using Windows, as the people in his studio do (well, before he made his own free lance company, he used to work for a studio, as it says in his biography on IMDB). He worked until 2002 with many of the big name studios and production (as you can see in the movie list) and they almost solely used Windows for most of their editing and production. I am not saying they don't use macs, but to state that macs are solely the only OS / Machine to edit professional films and are used better for design is false and ignorant, which is what most people are getting at in this thread.
I'm glad we've narrowed down Apple computers as computers for video editing. They also do audio editing, image editing, code editing, ....web scripts editing...oh and World of Warcraft. They do that too. And I'm happy for them that they can do all that very well and securely. But I want a computer that once I've gotten all my viruses can still edit videos using these. Do all that other garbage that I do all so much, and then play all these video games that are available for Windows. Main Idea: What Apple does, it does well. Windows does all that and everything else. Oh yeah and Linux does some stuff too. After it compiles and configures everything of course.
walk into a school or university in 1990... walk into one now... guess what, it went from all Apple bull---- to mostly Windows Bull----. Apple sells overpriced crap, that's why they have a market cap rate of $150,000,000 despite having only 5% market share. so basically they're assholes who exploit their customers. the only solid arguement for going with OSX is Final Cut. That is the only one which can't be countered. And that will be irrelevant in the coming years due to virtualization.
Yeah i know that. the exchange rate is roughly 1.9 so i tend to just double it thats fair enough, and im sorry to sound ignorant mate, im not that kind of person when it comes to the film idustry. anyway i agree with what your saying but i have used the words mostly and predominately. anyway, to the other guy, i know apple is overpriced lol i needed to buy one for final cut but when i was handing over my £2000 ($4000) that i saved for ages i was nearly cracking up lol and yeah, true, but macs are replacing windows computers these days, we got four i macs in at the start of last year, i just love the key boards ---- anyway the topics been fun, i think were all at-least beginning to come to a narrow agreement lol
you could use a 3rd party keyboard... seriously, razer, logitech, microsoft... they all make good keyboards
while a well-equipped PC may be just as capable in the field of design, in my experience in the proféssional photography world and my dad's experience in the graphic design world, if you're not using a mac, you're an amateur. they're not necessarily any better suited, they're just more widely used. probably because of apple's kissy-kissy relationship with adobe. PS: pixar uses almost exclusively macs. steve jobs is one of the owners.
Xlink : True, that was just a little thing i like, i didnt buy a $4000 mac for the keyboard lol yeah did you watch the pixar story on Sky Movies Premier? A great company founded in an unorthodox way
you SHOULD have bought the stripped down version of the thing, swapped out and sold the cheaper CPUs and graphics cards and then installed your own FBDIMM RAM.
I've got a Windows Desktop, and a Macbook --- (laptop). After using both on and off for 2 months, I gave my desktop to my sister, and installed Windows on my mac with Boot Camp (which comes with Leopard). Easy deal, I use Mac for everything except gaming, which I'll just switch to Windows for, and then back again. I can say that I really, really like the Mac a LOT more than Windows. If you have a program you really, really need that is only windows compatible, then get a version of crossover, whereas you can open Windows applications in Mac.
mmm i dont know if i would have made much on that, Macs arent like windows, you cant buy ---- off them with no hard-drive and ---- lol windows do that so nerds can make there computers look like home made bombs. the biggest money saver is buying 2 gigs of ram instead of 4 and installing the other 2 yourself.
PEOPLE ARE STILL NOT EXPLAINING WHY MACS ARE BETTER. Just because they may be becoming more commonplace now does not mean that if you don't use one, you suck. As I mentioned previously, I briefly worked at a webdesign company which was mainly mac based, but there was still one guy in there who refused to use a mac (He used linux and windows on different machines but no macs in sight) and he pulled off designs just as good as the mac users in the company. And I didn't hear any clients saying "yo, don't let that non-mac dude design for me, I want something made on a mac". TL;DR: Majority=retard.
memory, CPUs and video cards are all effectively transparent to the operating system in the sense that they're all basically the same. you can use regular off the shelf PC parts in your Apple made, PC-clone, just like in a Dell or HP made PC clone.
