Ever wondered what would be the worst diseases in the world?
Well Ebola is known to be one of the worst diseases in the world, being generated / born from Zaire and Sudan in Africa. It is found in mostly dead meat, diseased people / mammals, and most commonly in the Flying Foxes (a large species of bats).

I just came out of a discussion with one of my colleagues, on Batman, which turned into Bats / Characterstics, and eventually into Bat - Flying Foxes and finished at Ebola where he told me some things that only one's mind can think of not to hear about this disease...

    Flying Foxes:
Bats of the genus Pteropus, belonging to the Megachiroptera sub-order, are the largest bats in the world. They are commonly known as the Fruit Bats or Flying Foxes among other numerous colloquial names. They live in the tropics and subtropics of Asia (including the Indian subcontinent), Australia, Oceania, islands off East Africa (but not the mainland Africa), and a number of remote oceanic islands in both the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The oldest ancestors of the genus Pteropus to be unearthed appear in the fossil record almost exactly as they are today, the only notable differences being early flight adaptations such as a tail for stabilizing. The oldest megachiropteran is dated at around 35 million years ago, but the preceding gap in the fossil record makes their true lineage unknown.

Characteristically, all species of flying foxes only feed on nectar, blossom, pollen, and fruit, which explains their limited tropical distribution. They do not possess echolocation, a feature which helps the other sub-order of bats, the Microbats, locate and catch prey such as insects in mid-air. Instead, smell and eyesight are very well-developed in flying foxes. Feeding ranges can reach up to 40 miles. When it locates food, the flying fox "crashes" into foliage and grabs for it. It may also attempt to catch hold of a branch with its hind feet, then swing upside down — once attached and hanging, the fox draws food to its mouth with one of its hind feet or with the clawed thumbs at the top of its wings.

    Ebola:
Ebola is the common term for a group of viruses belonging to genus Ebola, family Filoviridae, and for the disease which they cause, Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The viruses are characterised by a long, filamentous morphology surrounded by a protein/lipid viral envelope. Ebola viruses are morphologically similar to the Marburg virus, also in the family Filoviridae, and share similar disease symptoms. Ebola has caused outbreaks and deaths since its discovery.

The Zaïre Ebola virus has the highest mortality rate, up to 90% in some epidemics, with an average of approximately 83% mortality over 27 years. The case-fatality rates were 88% in 1976, 100% in 1977, 59% in 1994, 81% in 1995, 73% in 1996, 80% in 2001-2002 and 90% in 2003. There have been more outbreaks of Zaïre Ebola virus than any other strain.

The first outbreak took place on August 26, 1976 in Yambuku, a town in the north of Zaïre. The first recorded case was Mabalo Lokela, a 44-year-old schoolteacher returning from a trip around the north of the state. His high fever was diagnosed as possible malaria and he was subsequently given a quinine shot. Lokela returned to the hospital every day. A week later, his symptoms included uncontrolled vomiting, bloody diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and trouble breathing. Later, he began bleeding from his nose, mouth, and anus. Lokela died on September 8, 1976, roughly 14 days after the onset of symptoms.

Soon after, more patients arrived with varying but similar symptoms including fever, headache, muscle and joint aches, fatigue, nausea, and dizziness. These often progressed to bloody diarrhea, severe vomiting, and bleeding from the nose, mouth, and anus. The initial transmission was believed to be due to reuse of the needle for Lokela’s injection without sterilization. Subsequent transmission was also due to care of the sick patients without barrier nursing and the traditional burial preparation method, which involved washing and gastrointestinal tract cleansing.

So in small content what is Ebola?
It is a deadly virus found in the meat of Flying Fox, a larger species of Bats found in Zaire and Sudan (other parts of Africa as well), which mostly causes:
    • Firstly High Fever
    • Then, Blood through Coughing
    • Blood from eyes through crying
    • Blood from Ears
    • Skin starts to rip out
    • Internal Organs are burned and body starts to bleed them out
    • Skeleton starts to melt.
In the end, you are left with bones which are half melted, skin that is showing your bones, eyes that have burst blood vessels, brain which is mostly nothing but blood vessels popping out.
So far there have been a few survivals around 10 or less as far as I know, are either blind and can't see anything, have no eyes at all as they dissolved, are left paralyzed for life with really thin skeletal structure, or basically just..well it is too hard to explain after that part.

Currently, there is no treatment / cure for this disease. They found a treatment once but the treatment was found out to be so deadly that the treatment along with this disease would kill the human being / mammal right away within seconds...

So if you have this disease the best thing to do is to kill yourself right away before your organs pop out of your ass and or other ways, and you suffer a slow but painfull and torture death in about a week or two. It takes time but it kills your like someone is torturing you really really bad.

Has anyone heard about this disease? Ever seen some pictures of it? Researched on it?

I found out about this couple minutes ago and thought it would be worth a share to the GR Community, don't take this the wrong way, just something I wanted to share.

    Discuss it here

Shouldn't this disease be considered more of a virus? It destroys you basically. Good thing I dont eat flying fox or any of that sort of meat.

    You all are welcome.

As it is said, the more you look around the more things open your eyes...something like that.

This is a Virus not a disease. If I used disease change it to virus..it kills you no matter what.

we learned about this in 8th grade. we were doing disease reports (mine was on schizophrenia) and we asked the teacher what the most gruesome disease he knew of was. He said ebola, and some kid picked it.

Bad. Choice. They later found out how horrible it is.

Informative post Zain, but to be honest I wouldn't have wanted to know what the symptons of Ebola are. Now my mind will take a way I don't want :)
