    I am looking to get a website host package.

    I am looking at Community Basic for 10.00 a month.

    This website will be for GFX most likely but it will be a forum site for sure.

    Just wondering what I actually need.

    I got my own hosting company :D Here's the main site:

    http://www.milofi.com

    This is what you get from IPB:

    * 100MB file storage
    * 5GB data transfer
    * Unlimited DB storage
    * IP.Board license included
    * No user/post limit
    * $20 one-time setup fee

    Or, from Milofi, you can get:

    25 Gigs of Space
    250 Gigs of BW
    Unlimited other features

    =]

    Also, theres free forum software out there thats just as good :D

    A world far beyond your imagination...
    If you want more cheaper try out
    http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml
    :)

    Also, IPb you can buy that it ain't that much around 200 bucks...
    But if you do buy be serious about opening your forum!

    Also I would suggest to buy hosting from Host Gator, then starting out your new forum with PHPBB or Vbulletin and when your forum is better and has good amount of members then swith over to IPB

    Believe me, that way you save tons of money :)

    AEF is really good if you want self-hosting forums, although if you're just starting out why not go 100% free and get pre-hosted forums. I would recommend http://jcink.com
    Why? It uses IPB 1.3 (with all known security issues patched) so you get the same feel as IPB and they've upgraded a lot of the components to be similar to IPB 2.3.x (for instance the Registration page is exactly the same as GR has and the Profiles are very similar to the ones here as well). It also comes with pretty much ever mod you'd need and you can always tweak things with javascript. Jcink Forums have IBStore installed, IBArcade installed, custom BBCodes, download system mod, affiliates mod, RPG mod etc etc. all of which can be turned off/on whenever and customised quite heavily. For a GFX forum, basically anything GR does Jcink Forums can do and you end up with a much more user-friendly service than self-hosting an IPB with a very good and reliable support board.

    Seriously, I've self-hosted IPBs, VBs, phpBBs and used Invisionfree and IPBFree and I'd never use anything other than JFB unless I wanted SERIOUS template editing capabilities (in which case use phpBB or AEF) which I never do. I mean just as an example, I use IBStore and the creds system a lot on multiple forums in the past. I self-installed it on an IPB once and had numerous annoyances in doing so because it really can be frustrating installing mods. But on Jcink all I do is press "Enable" and it's all set up, then I just use the ACP pages for it to customise it to my liking. And of course if there is a feature you really need mods are being added, features upgraded etc. all the time. They've installed in the last month Ad Removal and re-wrote the Lo-Fi script so the forums work easily on phones now.
