I highly, highly, highly reccommend the Sword of Truth book series by Terry Goodkind if you like fantasy books. They are rediculously good. The first book is Wizards First Rule, and the second is Stone of Tears. That should get you started. (12 books in the series, not including the prequel.)

The Bartimaeus Trilogy (Jonathan Stroud) was a very fun read :) Although if you despise fantasy, you might want to stay away from it (but it's not the lame elf/vampire kind of fantasy...it's kind of a harry potter-ish fantasy)

His Dark Materials Trilogy (Philip Pullman) is pretty controversial, but it's interesting. Again, avoid if not interested in fantasy/fiction.

Random classic books I found engaging: Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, Tender is the Night, A Farewell to Arms

I also liked the sword of truth series but I think that the wheel of time series by Robert Jordan is the best fantasy series out there.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel is a book I thought was cute, and it's definately not a difficult read. It's rich with symbolism and imagery, too, although the level isn't that tough.

    Another one I liked is...

Perdido Street Station by China Mieville is also one I liked. It's not that difficult of a read either.

If you like human philosophy on a grand scale, may I suggest the Robot and Foundation series by Isaac Asimov (Sci-Fi)

Robot series(I, Robot , The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun, The Robots of Dawn)

Foundation Series(Lots of them, but the first is Prelude to Foundation)

Good books I would say to read are The Green Mile by Stephen King, Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

    Hmmmm some good books
    science fiction

first two are centered around the Illiad and odyssey
(Illium,Olympos)-sex, violence, and strong language Rated Ma for mature lol :P
read these books two years ago i think in the 8th grade and they were really good, contraversial, lots of big words
didn't understand "everything" but got most of it and enjoyed it thoroughly looking at what you read im just gonna assume you'll have a much better time understanding than i did

same author-this next series has the same content warning
    Hyperion
    fall of hyperion
(there are like three books to this series, only read the first so far, though it was good, i often found my self some what bored

the first three books listed are probably the only "Tough" books i have ever read

Bartimaeus Trilogy was good, but i think it might be a bit young for you, an easy read despite how good i found the story when i read it two years ago

went on a reading spree one year read almost 50 books, and then stopped reading for the most part since then
