So yeah, just really wanting some help with a new PC build. I'm needing to upgrade, largely so I can play Assassins Creed but ultimately to look at Bioshock and Crysis as well. Right now all I have is the CPU: Intel Pentium Core Duo E2160 1.8GHz Although its more than likely that I'll be buying this case unless anyone else has suggestions: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134798 And this RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755 I already have a good monitor, keyboard and mouse. What I really need help with is GPU, power supply, sound card and most importantly a Motherboard that will work with these parts. Any help appreciated ~ Darkshine
I hear the 9900gtx is coming out this month and it's better than the 8800's so i think it's something to consider.
Hmm I maybe should have mentioned I'm going for budget items I may be able to get an 8800GT for around £50, but the most I'll spend is £100 on a GPU alone
£50 for an 8800, from a friend i take it. If you can get an 8800 for £50 then go for it. Well worth your money at that price, considering allot are 3 times that.
For the GPU, if you could get the 8800 for £50, then stick with that. You don't really need a soundcard, but if you really want one for gaming, then get this: Soundcard: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127553 or if that's too expensive then this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/121761 PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135197 Motherboard: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/138871
I've had this Mobo recommended to me elsewhere? Which is better? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/144456
Power Supply I would get a Corsiarhttp://www.ebuyer.com/product/132563. mobo http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143176 just wondering whats your budget?
Cheap as possible Tbh, although that mobo looks the best, its too much for me. I'm looking at maximums of £40 for mobo, £100 for GPU, £40 for power supply kind of thing.
That motherboard is microATX. If you go with that, then you have to get a microATX psu. I would suguset you stick with a ATX motherboard, but if you want you could get a microATX psu, since the case your gonna get is compatible with both ATX and microATX. Also if you go with that microATX motherboard, you should get another ram, because that motherboard only supports a maximum of 667mhz ram, so you would waste money since the ram your getting is 800mhz. Another thing, don't go with that motherboard i recommended . I just realized that the motherboard i recommended can also only support 667mhz. Go with this one instead: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140061
OK thanks for the help that last one looks good ^_^ EDIT: So right now I'm looking at these specs: CPU: Intel Core Duo E2160 (bought) GPU: (maybe) 8800GT (~£50) Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140061 (£44.35) RAM: OCZ 2*1GB @ 800MHz http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755 (£27.99) PSU: 700W http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135197 (£39.99) Chassis: Black Mid Tower with front end fan http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134798 (£21.99) Total Price ~ £185 If anyone has any more suggestions/cheaper units that would be great. This is pretty much the maximum I was looking to spend.
no. GTX280 came out. as it seems now, there will be no 9900s. and GYI the 9800s aren't really any faster than the 8800s. and it's too expensive for what it is. ATi's 4870 is around 10% slower overal, but it costs $250-300 as opposed to $650
OK in light of my idiocy over the GPU I'm now going with this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145605/show_product_reviews Presuming it fits with the above spec. Could someone just run this through and make sure its all working together?
Yes that gpu will work that that motherboard. Another thing, don't you need a HDD? Unless you got one already. Also you will need a heatsink for the cpu. And you might want to get some artic sliver. Here's a heatsink: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105994
I'm planning on using my current HDD with it for the time being and upgrading in the future. As for a heatsink I can either try and salvage my old good one from current setup or (more likely) just stick with the one that came with the CPU for the time being and upgrade in the future.
