Start A Forum

i know exactly what you mean. i was part of a forum that was a "small community" but with ALOT of active members. i guess all you need is a

great website with something everyone likes and active members. let me know if you need and help

you can first get like invision free forum or something cause you dont have to pay, then u can go upgrade maybe if its really popular

 

No invisionfree forum will ever be taken seriously.

This is exactly what I am saying.

Expect an initial investment of a few hundred dollars, then expect multiple weeks worth of doing nothing but working / school / sleeping and then going back to work on your website. Original content, advertising, original content, finding staff who care, original content, and a good base of members to start off with who want to see that forum flourish.

Thats a good base amount of expectations to starting a new site.

I wouldn't bother starting a new one, to be honest. Just find a nice one where you can get what you need. It really doesn't bring you anything but stress and a lot of effort that mostly gets ignored. Even really big sites (like this one) have inactive moments, I'd say at least 50-60% of the total member accounts went inactive after 2 weeks to a month..

and I had a succesful site at one point.
but our hosting ran out.
so we said f*ck it.

 

Post crap that no other site they had( original content ) have a couple of buddys post a crap load get there buddys to join and just spread like wild fire hehe but its gonna take a long time getting everything PERFECT

 

if its a design community make a 'pdf magazine' monthly with updates, interviews, design news, etc.
make it look -----
but you must make this a monthly commitment dont skip 1 month or else!

seen this in brazilian design forums but never have in english ones
i think it would help set you apart

you still need a couple hundred for advertising to get the name out there

You can create any forum you want to - as long as you're willing to put forth some serious effort. It looks like you are - so you should be able to do it with no problem!
