Well im in the need of a new pc as my current one has trouble doing most easy things. I cant say that i will be playing games to much, but maybe a little Grid or Battlefield here and there. It's mostly going to be for photoshop and stuff of the like, but i would like somthing decent and upgradable, i dont plan on doing sli or crossfire. I dont want a mid tower pc or by any means a full tower. I am planning on building my own or buying a laptop. If i were to build my own mATX i have picked out a few parts that i would get for it:

    ASUS P5E-VM HDMI mATX Motherboard

Silverstone Sugo SFF SG03B mATX Case

    Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4ghz Processor

Crucial Ballistix PC26400 DDR2 Dual Channel 800mhz Memory

Gigabyte Odin 550w Modular SLI Ready PSU
(Need the modular for a mATX case cause the wires get tight in a small case like the one i picked)

    EVGA Geforce 8800GT 512mbDDR3 600mhz Video Card

Now thats the basics of what i would get... it's not top of the line by any means but will last me a while, the board can overclock well if i ever needed to overclock but it lacks pci-e 2.0.... which is a drag but other than that it has everything i would need. I can always upgrade to a quad core cpu if needed and the case is one of the best mATX'es around...

so with that said should i go with somthing like this or would it be better to get a laptop which i could bring with me everywhere but wouldn't have as good of specs?

i am on a budget of about $1500 and i live in canada so i cant really buy parts from the us. I have looked at tigerdirect but they dont carry the motherboard i want and the prices are cheaper at NCIX. I went to future shop the other day and like the laptops but was kinda not impressed that they have no power.

Is there any improvements to be made to the system i have picked out? Or should i go with the laptop?

A world far beyond your imagination...
    Here is the deal,
Gaming on a Laptop is just insane, because though Laptops are powerful and fast and portable, they just do not have the physical capability of running Overheated or Supert Graphic Cards.
I know from experience, as my Sony Vaio Bursted out the CD Drive and Other parts while I was gaming a while back.

PC's on the other hand, are much more reliable when it comes to gaming. You get a large monitor, Mouse, move around Keyboard and way better performance than Laptop.
In some cases, though Laptops are better than Desktops as they are portable and do not require much configuration at all.

I can get you an insane machine for 1500 CAD which is about 1,481.11 USD

I like Newegg a lot but I do not know if they ship to Canada but I will see what I can do :)

Oh PM Xelink if you want, he is a good bud when it comes to custom computers, or Computers in General

thats the problem.. it's only a small thing that laptops can't run games (not really all that small) but it would be impossible for me to give up.. but on the other hand i know that i want to do somthing artsy after highschool and a laptop slr camera and an hdd cam would be lovely to get me on my way... i just cant take take a pc around like a laptop... but on the other hand, the mATX is -------portable to take it to sombody elses house to work on projects and stuff it also gives better power.

And shipping from newegg to canada is most likely possible im just worried about the dreaded border fee's and hold-up... i hate the canadian border!

Oh really  . There are laptops that are nearly as powerful as the most powerful desktops. I have a laptop and i have not had any trouble with it while gaming and i do a lot of gaming. You could get a laptop with a 8800gts for under $1500 and it would have all the needs your looking for. Also since your gonna need it for college, a laptop would be a good choice.

and then a consideration should you feel you want some more power gaming side, definately not a must though, the 880gt is still capable

it's a beast of a card and overclocks well. AMD did will this round. the 4870 is only 10% slower than the GTX 280, but the GTX 280 is $650-700 in most cases while there are places selling the 4870 for as low as $300, and the 4850 is damned solid too.

great info xlink, i like that first video card and i think i might go for it, im getting a few extra hours in at work and it looks like it would be well worth it! I think im solid on the idea of going for the mATX, the laptop was a nice thought but the mATX will do me more good than portability.
