    17"
    HDD 160 GB
    3072MB Ram

    Second Choice
Notebook Processor Intel Core 2 Duo T5550
    ATI 3470 (256 MB dedicated)

i would go with the first

    positive:
    17 Inch
    8400M - Decent
3 Gigs - Dont have too install 64 bit
160 GB - Depends what you want to do with it but 160 should be enough

    Negative:
    AMD

17" could be a negative part (i need the notebook for school, so i don't know if it's fits in my bag pack.

i thought 4 Gigs Ram was better than 3 Gigs?

you think thing the processor is a negative point at the first choice?
what about the Intel Core 2 Duo T5550?

    thx m8

    imo intel's better than amd

4 gig is good, but you will need a 64bit os to adress it all, and a 64bit os doesnt support all programs a 32bit does..

about the screen buy a bigger bag xD

what doe you mean, doesn't support all programs?

what programs would run on 4 gig?
like the normal programs: office, photoshop, ...
    or ...

He doesn't mean 4 gig, he means that not all programs support 64 bit. Actually most programs run fine on 64 bit nowadays, but i think you should just get 32 bit and stick with 2 gigs and save yourself some money. You won't see a big increase in performance, instead upgrade your processor. If you must then get 3 gigs. Also i think you should get the second choice because of the intel processor.

What is the clock speed on the Second Processor?

And If you want mobility, and are just planning on doing work on it, or maby play some games. I would defently go with the second one.

3G is plenty for this generation of work/gaming. And as ravr said you don't need to install 64bit.

A world far beyond your imagination...
    Second Choice
Notebook Processor Intel Core 2 Duo T5550
    ATI 3470 (256 MB dedicated)
    15.4"
    HDD 320 GB
    4096 MB Ram

    Go with that one

    ---'s:
    Intel Processor
    Good Graphics Card (decent)
15.4" of Screen, and since it is for school it won't be that heavy
    Nice looking HD (not bad)
and yes offcource 4096 MB is better than the old 3 GB X_X

    Con's:
A slitlghty slower processor but then again with 4GB RAM you won't even feel it :)

    -Zain

OH might I ask where you are getting this and how much is this?
because my brother is graduating tomorrow and I want to get him something

    XD

well CPU wise they're about on par as far as performance goes, might be a little faster c2d side though. FYI c2ds are faster per clock than turions. about 20% faster.

energy wise, under heavy load the intel CPU is more enegy efficient, under lighter loads the turion is more efficient.

as far as the graphics card, the 3470 is faster than then the 8400M G in most cases(around 60% faster), but slower than the 8400M GS(around 20%) in most cases
the 3470 uses less energy than either of the 8400m s though

all in all I'd say go with the latter, just based on specs.

former = first, latter = the last.

product A is like this and product B is like that.

product A is the former, product B is the latter.

former and latter probably aren't used THAT much in typical conversation, but if you write a lot of essays, they tend to be used a bit and I tend to write much fo what I do as though ti were an essay with relatively specific descriptions. Since English isn't your first language don't feel bad, as I know there are people here, though admittedly not hat bright, who wouldn't know either, and I've been told that I'm a bit verbose at times and that I use "big words" even in day to day speech(don't know what that happened, I used to talk simplistically and even had speech problems until I was 7 or so, though my reading wasn't adversely affected just my oratory skills)

    and thanks for your opinion...

You guys all helped me a lot!
Now i'm sure i'm going to send my mom to buy that laptop
