the fact that you bombed the final says that you didnt understand the material you learned over the course of the year, thus there is no reason to bump you up. you obviously need more help with it.

Agree with pianoman, you blatantly don't know what you're meant to have learnt so that's exactly what summer school is for. Just go, learn and hope next time you can get it together.

I have to agree with the teacher here. It would be different, verry different if it wasn't for the matter that she added points to everyone. Before adding the points, if you then had 0.01 short, the teacher should indeed give you the C-grade. Now though, you can't expect her to give you the grade since basically you don't earn it.
You proved yourself that you actually need summer school since if it wasn't for those extra credits you would have blatantly failed the course.

The extra credits are just like gifts handed out by the teacher, don't see why she should hand out another one to you seeing you don't know your course.

It is only fair of the teacher to not bump it up anymore, since that is what you got, that is what you deserve.

Really sorry for you though. :(

Did you put any effort at all into the class? Not the "I tried sooooooo hard, but that b*tch teacher hates me so I can't pass" bullsh*t that most kids put out, but real effort--did you do the homework, did you study, did you take advantage of extra credit opportunities, did you go to tutoring (assuming you needed help with the material; all of my teachers were required to give tutoring after school)?

It's high school math; you're in what, Algebra II? Geometry? The people I knew that failed those classes fell into two categories, those that didn't try (didn't bother with the homework, didn't pay attention in class) or people that really didn't get it (some people just don't get some of the more advanced math subjects). Those that seriously did not get it are the ones that I had sympathy for; they usually went to tutoring and at least tried to do their homework, even if they got it wrong. And somebody like that, most teachers wouldn't have a problem giving an extra point or two so they'd pass--effort goes a long way with teachers.

If you didn't give it any effort, why did you expect the teacher to pass you? Because you really didn't want to go to summer school? (why were you depending on the bare minimums to pass?) The only person to be pissed at is yourself. It sucks, but you should have tried harder. You've got to live with the consequences.

Want a hint? For math classes, always do the homework. The only way to learn math is to do it; "doing it" doesn't involve watch the teacher solve the problem on the overhead all day. And, as I said before, a little effort goes a long way with teachers (and managers, if you're working).

well I asked for opinions on a site where there are many wise and helpful people. I'll post what they said alter

    Anonymous 06/02/08(Mon)19:04:56 No.70867873

Okay. So here is the whole story behind the reason on why Im pissed off.

First off, to not get anyone confused, I failed last semester with an F and I would need a C on the second semester to not go to summer school.

So.. On Thursday I went after school to my math teacher and asked her how I did on the final. She said I did okay and that I passed the class. I asked her if I got a C and not go to summer school, but she said I got a D and she cannot do anything about it.

So then, when I went home I checked my final grade online. I did do bad on the final (53%) but she also gave the whole class 50 extra credit points, which supposedly should turn my final into a 71%. (EC wasn't added to final)

I checked my Final Grade and it was 76.4% !! You need to have a 77 to pass the grade with a C. So basically I was missing 0.01 % ! Down by 2 points. It wouldn't be fair at all for me to go to summer school just because of a 76.4%, since its just 0.01% away from getting me to that C I really wanted and away from summer school.

So... I emailed my teacher telling her this and then today in the morning she emails me back saying that she didn't know I was that close to a C and that she will Change my grade to a C.

    >> Anonymous 06/02/08(Mon)19:05:37 No.70867967

    .

So.... At night I checked my email again and I got an email from her... She said that she has been thinking about it all day and didn't checked my final exam grade. She said that since I got a 54% on the final, she will keep that grade to a D+ (76.4%)....

Right now Im sooooo freakin pissed off. I personally believe that I dont deserve to go to summer school cuz of a 76.4%. Its just 0.01% away from not going to summer school and me having that C. I didnt email her back cuz Im going to go to school and talk to the guy that runs summer school and my counselor.

Do you think that they can have the power to just change that grade to a C so I wouldn't go to summer school ? Or do anything to prevent my summer from being a disaster ? Because I think that this is just unfair. Summer school is determined by your Final Grade, not by your final exam.

    Your thoughts on this ?

ask them if you can have a look at the test. try to find a question that was marked wrong and ask them to correct it. a single correction should give you the 0,01% you need.

if you cant find anything then you change it so it gets right. just make sure you have the same pencil with you to make it look the same.

if it's multiple choice it's easy, a "C" can easily be changed into an "a" or a "d".

    That's no good hon,

but honestly there is nothing that can be done.

And not to sound mean, but by the sound of it you could use that extra schooling through the summer.

I know it doesn't seem fun but if you need it you need it, simple as that.

So I'm sorry about that, just work hard, play less.

    Study Study Study!

Dude, don't put the blame on your teacher. It's your fault you failed and had to go to summer school.
But don't get totally pissed of just because of a 0.1% that's missing from your grade. You haven't earned that 0.1%.
Which tells you to study harder doesn't it?

You should have studied. But then again the teacher should have rounded up. Good thing in my school if any grades are .5 or less from another letter grade it is REQUIRED to round the grade up.
