Here's something I just made last night.

Now, I know there are plenty of things wrong with it (no border, for one), but I wanted a signature. I'll probably work on it some more today.

It's mostly brushes and minor effects (I've forgotten how to do anything else). I think it looks decent, if a bit unoriginal (scan lines, vectors, fractal/grunge brushes).

The main problem I had was not knowing what to do with it.

    Any comments are appreciated.

    EDIT:

As swartzy suggested, I've reduced the opacity of the scan lines. Also, I was lazy and just changed the color of the render.

    Any better?

    EDIT:

Following seftie's advice, I've changed the scan lines to white (using Soft Light). At first I brought the stars out in front of the scan lines, and it looked somewhat better, but still lacking. Eventually I removed the stars and many other layers (which eliminated much of the redness). I also changed the color of the render back to what it was.
At this point, I like how it looks, but it's empty. Any suggestions?

    Yeah, you're right.

Actually, the background started out very blue and green. I think I missed the color red towards the end and just spazzed out a bit...
I'm not exactly sure how I would fix that issue.

As for the scan lines, I'll see how they look toned down.

    Thanks, swartzy.

The signature is too crouded, way too many brushing, the color of the character dioesn't suit with the background (Sugguestion: try to add a gradient map to it with two warm colours, yellow and light orange for instance and put the layer to 'color')
then the scanlines would be better if they were white and soft light. Also a good idea is to remove the scan line bit on the stars to give the depth effect.

Thanks, seiftie. I've tried some of the things you've mentioned and I'll post the edit.

BC´VERBAL, I've read quite a few tutorials over the years. Since they all vary in quality, I normally skim through for useful techniques, rather than following the entire thing.

I feel more comfortable trying to imitate effects on my own, anyway.
