First off, I'm a fan of both systems but I'm getting tired of the PS3 getting the short end of the stick. If it's not extra installs then it's longer load times and well considering Call Of Duty 4 runs smooth on both systems why can't developers get it right for other games. Have you noticed most of the new games coming out recently for the PS3 are requiring installs? I don't really care about the time but I didn't think I would have to upgrade my PS3 HDD this early. It's already pretty much full and I've only got a few demo's and videos on it, I got GTA IV on the 360 and good thing because I wouldn't have enough room on my HDD for the install. lol What do you guys think? Note* I'm not trying to create a PS3 vs 360 flame war, just stating that the dev's should be working a little harder on PS3 games. If I wanted to do an install before playing games then I'd play it on my PC. PS3 Games with installs that I know of.. GTA IV Spiderman Time Crisis GT Prologue Metal Gear Solid 4 Haze At an average of 4gb per install - 24gb total. That's my PS3 HDD full just from installs. lol
yeh im looking to get a new hdd for my ps3, Haze is the biggest one i have i think it requires 5gb.. i have 17/60 left
I added Haze to the list and I only have the 20gb so I pretty much have to upgrade the HDD. Honestly, it doesn't really bother me but I didn't think I'd have to upgrade this early.
Mmh seeing from the vid, don't have a PS3 myself , it is definitly slower. This shouldn't be because the devs from Sony have had way more time to make the PS3 right. 360 came out way to early and therefore had a lot of flaws.
640GB drives are around $100. quit your bitching, you'll never run out with 640GB. hell I have 1.2TB and I'll never run out of space. at least not for a few years. or does the ps3 require the use of a laptop harddrive? I'm not sure to be honest. I don't see why it really matters. and FYI the PS3 is a lot harder to code for and has somewhat less available/less allocatable RAM. the 360's operating system, a highly modified version of windows, uses less RAM than what's used by the PS3. also the memory subsystem between the two consoles is diferentiated. the PS3 has two banks of memory, one with incredibly high bandwidth(but high latency) xdr RAM for cell and another for the graphcis card with lower bandwidth, lower latency gDDR3 memory for the GPU. ideally it'd all be R(latency doesn't matter much in GPUs, but bandwidth does) but R costs too much so Sony went with gddr3 for it and as such net result - harder to allocate memory. also Xenos, on the 360 has 10mb embedded cache, so that in essense bumps the xbox 360s net memory by another 2%(at least if the cache/main memory are exclusive and not inclusive. TBH I'm not sure if it is or not. I'f think it's be exclusive though since that's cheaper to implement) IMO Sony would have been better off using all gDDR3 memory like the 360 and then adding say 1GB DDR2 memory for whatever cannot fit into the gDDR3.
PS3 drives are easy to replace, look under the flap on the buttom. Just back up all your data ( PC, ipod etc) and then go nuts. Also, it won'y void your worrenty if you replace the drive.
well all the games for ps3 invole some sort of installition i still have alot of memeory left i have the 80 gb i don`t think i will ever have to get a new hdd bcuz i always delete the demos i download so it don`t bother me but the updates take forever
