Ok so this is what i've got right now, and i have a few questions about what i should do to upgrade.

Video Card: EVGA 640-P2-N829-A1 GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard
PSU: ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W ATX12V Power Supply 90V~265V (Auto Adjusted) UL, cUL, TUV, CB
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
Heatsink: COOLER MASTER GeminII RR-CCH-ANU2-GP CPU+ Board Cooler <- ( i Know this isn't exactly the best heatsink, but i got it 100% free after the rebate)

And I was going to upgrade with this:

New Mobo w/ sli: ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
Another GPU in sli: EVGA 01G-P3-N891-AR GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB (512MB per GPU) 512-bit (256-bit per GPU) GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
    More Memory: Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

I had several things i was wondering about.

I was trying to save a bit of money on the upgrade so I'm wondering if i will notice a signifigant difference keepign my old mobo and usign the new GFX card instead of running them both in sli
and i've been reading that that card gets nice and toasty so was wondering if teh fans in this Case would be enough to cool it down or would i need some other sort of cooler thing??

and then will my power supply be good w/ sli? w/ just the new gpu on old mobo?

and both mobo's say that they support 8gb of memory max, is there anything else that would affect that or i will i be able to use all my memory no matter what mobo i choose to go with?

I think that's all my questions, and feel free to suggest any money savign tips for my upgrade, i'm open to suggestions ^_^

    Thanks for reading!

Ok well I'll try to answer your questions (Would suggest more RAM btw, 4gb is kind of required for a lot of things now a days)

Depending how old your old mobo is might have an effect on if getting a new one will improve your computer. I expect you can easily get away with just your case.

Your other questions I'll leave to others.

Alright looks like you have some money to burn there ;)

    Lets see...

First of all, do you really want 6GB of memory?
I got 2 GB and I barely use it at full power with my Qx9770 ... the highest I would go if you want intensive gaming would be 4GB ... 64bit OS
So just buy your Crucial Ballistix 2GB again
    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16820146565
But if you want 6gB go ahead..it just depends on what OS you using and if you will really be needing that much RAM, maybe in 5 years or so
Save about 50 bucks on that

Upgrade your Mobo if you want to Dual SLi those two monsters (8800GTS 9800Gx2)..even though 9800's already SLi from inside
You will need 2 PCI-e Express slots and your old Mobo only has one so yeah do that upgrade
only Upgrade if you are wiling to Sli the monsters...

As for the cooling, are you going to be doing an O/c on both cards?
if so you will need more than just the Stock Cooling System.. (gimme a min i will look up some links for that)

500 Watts I believe is Ok with either way of you Sli or just one Cards on the Mobo, but do double check with Xelink..

Other than that your Graphics Card is already a good one..(one of the best I believe)
If you are willing to spend over 1k upgrading your comp then go ahead buy the 9800gx2, be aware that Nvidia are coming out with a new series in the summer (month or two) so I could wait for those

..Overall ask Xelink .. double check :D

    thx for replies,

i think i'll prbly just get the RAM then if new gpu's are gonna be comin out :P
but yes i do think i want 6gb, with 2gp i've had programs crash from running out of memory
normally happens when i'm playign some online games at high settings + i normally keep firefox open

and i'm running vista 32bit which probably doesn't help anything lol

Well you will need Vista 64bit once you get 6GB ram...

I have had 2GB for a while...3 months and played Crysis for hours and still no crash :D

strip the OS down a bit.

and to use more than 4GB RAM you need a 64bit OS FYI.

Yup, I think 32bit will only recognize ~3.5GBs or so

32 bit Vista only accepts 3gb - can tell you as the laptop I'm on at the moment has up to 4gb and I'm running 32bit.

In all honesty I'm fine with having that spare 1gb, it's not that it's not used at all, just not by the OS.

ok so if i understand correctly I just need a 64bit operating system to access more than 3.5gb~4gb of memory?
and can you run 64bit vista on a 32bit processer or do you need 64bit one of them too?

and ty all for helping ^_^ <3

the CPU you picked out is a 64bit processor.

    and no you couldn't.

depends on your motherboard and BIOS.

the absolute cap is 4GB. and the majority of the time less than 4GB will be accessible but some boards do.

FYI you don't need an SLI board for a single 9800GX2

I at lest knew that much :P

but is Ubuntu 64bit more or less buggy than vista 64bit?
and are there certain types of programs that won't work properly on both or is it just a bunch of different programs that don't have much to do with each other

uhh each OS has their quirks.

my advice is the more OSes(within reason of course) the better.

Ubuntu itself is pretty solid. but not everything 3rdparty side is. Same goes for Vista 64

IMO general use and light gaming = ubuntu
heavier gaming and specific apps = windows

FYI everything linux.. well there's relatively little 3rd party support. you basically get compatibility with windows programs by emulating the API. it's not perfect though. While I cang et photoshop 7 to run, I cannot get PS cs or alter to run. While I can get
that's where virtualiztion comes in. except where 3d acceleration is required, virtualization is a great tool.

also, install windows first in the order

    98
    2000
    XP
    vista

    then install linux.

trust me on that it'll save a lot of headaches.(the XP boot loader doesn't work with vista but vista's does with XP, ubuntus boot loader works with everything though)
