Well if you are on the topic of gas prices causing other prices to raise, bio-fuel is not the answer. Since bio-fuel has been considered even remotely an answer, we've seen prices go up in markets. Think of this, we dedicate the majority of our corn, a cash crop, to fueling our cars. Livestock eats corn, meat and milk goes up, chickens eat corn, eggs and poultry go up, not to mention how expensive an ear of corn to eat will be. And that is only the first link in the chain. I personally find the answer to fuel to be in the form of hydrogen, the only problem is an efficient way of getting it to consumers.

The funny thing is, the United States, for the large party, does not even pay the raised oil prices. While Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, etc. all jack up the price of a barrel of oil, only Saudi Arabia ranks in even the top 5 of oil imports to the United States. Most of our oil comes from within the states, while two and three are Mexico and Canada, respectively.

Yeah, although bio-fuel can be another alternative, it has way too many cons and it's going to take a step back from improvement if we go with it. Just like above poster said, if corn prices go up every food chain price would go up. And if you think about it if we are going to devote so much field just for corn, it's going to cause soil erosion. I'm not sure about the nuclear one if its made safer, but imo its not worth the chance.

    I dunno

europeans are paying $10 a gallon in places.
their prices relative to ours are going DOWN.

I think a weak dollar caused by low interest rates and other inflationary pressures is the cause

also I think the Corn subsidies are hurting worse than the fuel. There is a shortage of corn right now because so much of it is going into ethanol production. It takes 300 lbs of corn to get 1gallon of ethanol AND IT TAKES MORE ENERGY TO MAKE ETHANOL THAN YOU GET FROM IT. Shortage of corn = increased price of corn = increased price of corn feed = increased cost of raising animals = higher animal/animal product prices

because it's incredibly expensive to produce and it requires more energy to be put in than one can get out of it?

Bio-Fuel is a horrible alternative. It is one of the reasons why all food prices have risen, because millions of tons of maize are used on Bio-Fuel, instead of feeding people. Also when corn is in demand, they can sell the normal maize for a higher price.
Also the economy in China is getting better than ever before. The Chinese began to eat meat, since they have the money for it now. So basically, 1.3 billion more people are now eating meat.

As xlink said: "Shortage of corn = increased price of corn = increased price of corn feed = increased cost of raising animals = higher animal/animal prices"
At the same time as more people are eating meat, there is less corn for the animals.
The increase of the corns price, causes higher prices of all food.

This has caused a catastrophe in the 3rd world.
The food prices have increased about 25 % all over the world. The poor people, especially in Africa, are hungering now.
In Pakistan, a woman with her 2 children have committed suicide because of hunger. She jumped in front of a train, she said, she would rather die than seeing her children starve to death. They haven't eaten for several days. She used to have money enough for feeding her family, however her children couldn't go to school because her husband didn't have enough money.

She became a symbol for the starvation in the 3rd world.

I think, we should find another alternative or wait.
I don't want to save money and be the reason of poor people's death. I think it's horrible how we're only thinking about us self nowadays, when we already got enough money. It's just like in the past, when we used the poor people. I think this is the same, just in an indirect way. I mean c'mon, we already got enough money compared to the 3rd world. Basically we help them (with money), and then we make the food more expensive - it doesn't make the situation any better.

We should riot and at the same time not use gas until the prices are down!

Did you know a gallon is worth $0.15 cents in Valenzuela.

No its not. Iran has their own oil reserves, yet their gas prices have increased by 300%. There is no shortage of gas anywhere. Its abundant. A source of oil had recently been found in Canada which can sustain the world for a few years. Now this is just one source. Imagine all the other ones that have been found, and will be found. Imagine all the ones you never hear about.

    Its very simple.

You take away the basic necessities of man, and man will revolt.

    Our food is being rationed.
Our price of gas is increasing.
    Land costs are elevating.
The cost of living is elevating, slowly in rural areas, but sharply in urban areas.

Why do you think the UK Department of Defense has devised the global strategic plans of 2007-2036? The future has, and always will be........planned.

    ethanol is useless
we use more energy to make it, use more land, and use more food

So can we invade, say, Saudi Arabia now? They're looking pretty ripe for a regime change if you ask me.

Bio-Fuel seriously can work out if exchange is met through most countries to supply the plants, while others supply food, etc. etc. It can be possible if, and I hope to God, countries get a brain and come together for once.

Of course assuming that is like trying to say I could grow wings that shoot bullets at poor unsuspecting squirrels and the bullets hit their head no matter how I shoot. Really though, if anybody had reasoning, they'd try to strike some balance and exchange in order to gain some new alternative for fuel.. a market, so to speak.

I also somewhat giggled at Gucci Girl's post, but I'm not going to point out why. Maybe later, when someone else posts, I'll reply to that.

And Ferret, I say invade Saudi Arabia anyways. Hey, a majority of the terrorists in 9/11 was from Saudi anyways. ALL FOR THE LAND!!!!
