The thing you fail to realize is most of those are large art turned into signatures.

Very, very, very few signatures use any artistic form without being used for the purpose of linking to the actual art.

Broken does those kinds of sigs all the time to his large art (look at his planets, hes by far one of the best planet individuals on DA).

Don't want to talk bad about my brokey, but neither I nor him even compare to the "better individuals" :P

Oof?
Word up.

Aye, most of the very nice tags etc. you'll see are LPs shrunken to tags, chances are that's the case with the majority of those tags shown. -Shrug- Large Pieces are where it's at, and looking at it from a DESIGNER point of view, if you can't break the barrier between tags and large pieces then you're never going to get anywhere.

lol who ever said that you can't express you emotion on a smaller canvas ?
wtf is that ? that's like saying "you can't ride a bike without lights on"

art is art .. no matter how big the canvas is .. period

if we talk about art that sells .. then yea .. tags are pointless to make

and @ dementia .. i can link you over hundreds good sigs that weren't LP's cropped

and everything takes practice .. so big lol at the people that say .. people who make sigs can't make lp's.
practive achieves everything

Whoever said there isn't any "---" sig designers obviously haven't done their research properly.
as for "legendary", define legendary?

As a person observing sig designs for over 7 years, there are styles you guys think were set by people today.
But I've been seeing the same styles set 7 years ago.

There are people I know in DepthCore that started out doing signature before they moved on to large art.
There are people I know that are popular on DeviantART and even working as designers now that started out doing signatures.

These people were "---" sig designers and probably still are.

On my time on Gamerenders I haven't seen one signature with a style that I have never seen before.
This doesn't mean there aren't any "---" sig designers on Gamerenders, I reckon Draven and Beowulf? I think his called, are great.

But in this age, every style you can think of, I can tell you its been done.

So what is legendary?

In my eyes a "legendary" sig designer broke the boundaries of what people called "just a 400x150 rectangle of emotionless art"

Some names do come to my mind, but I doubt anyone here know them, since they were doing sig designs while you were in primary school.

eh, i do all of my graphics work because i find it fulfilling. it's an expression of how i feel about things, whether it's an enthusiatic vector of my favorite manga character, or a smaller-canvas sig meant to convey a certain feel or mood. a lot of the time, i'm inspired by imagery that i see in my dreams. that imagery shows up a lot in my digital paintings.

like traditional mediums, art in the digital realm is inherently subjective. and while you can make and sell crowd-pleasing art as a career, in the end, the connection that the viewer has with the art is the crucial point. that moment where the viewer feels something, whether it's amazement, disgust, hatred, amusement, happiness, sadness....that, to me, is much more preferable to mere indifference. i know what i feel when i create something - if anyone has a reaction to it, it's a proxy conversation with the viewer. they're responding to my feelings, my concepts and ideas.

if we look back at the evolution of traditional style in conventional mediums, we see the cycles of realism ebb and flow. it's the same thing with concepts - sometimes, art tends to speak more in allegory and metaphor. sometimes, concrete depictions are in vogue. other times, atmosphere and mood are most important.

i won't deny that i often have a hard time appreciating the usual LPs - beautiful shapes made in c4d or illustrator, juxtaposed against a BG that contrasts in color or texture. the effects are gorgeous, the composition is lovely....but i can't get a grip on it. i fail to make that connection; the art is so smooth and slippery that there's no purchase for my mind, no hook that i can relate to. sometimes i can just appreciate it as something incredibly pleasing to the eye, but those are rare occasions.

but other times, i view an LP, and i can FEEL the emotion behind it. i can feel the excitement or passion or pain of the artist - i can make the connection. then, the longer i look at the work, the deeper the conversation goes.

to sum up: any creation you make - whether it's a doodle on a scrap of paper, a signature on a forum, a large-format piece or an avatar - should have some of YOU in it. when you really feel something while you create, it shows in your art, and it enables viewers to connect with it.

Im glad you feel your tags are art.

Do it on a bigger canvas make everyting yourself, and show emotion and then ill care about what you have to say.

I read your peoples long thought out arguements, they're just saying "Tags take skill to".

But whats art without emotion?

Empty is what.

who says you cant express your emotion on a smaller canvas, you can make everything yourself on a small canvas too, why is it the canvas which decides that you are an artist or not?

Some tags have pletny of emotion and portair art.

But 95% of tags lack emotion.

I'm basing my statements on a vast majority of people, who said it was ture 100% of the time? I didn't, its just true for nearly every tag. They're aren't that many that have emotion anymore.

so just by that statement.. tags are no art ?
that's what you're saying

and how do you know that some tags have no emotion in them
do you know the creators emotion when he make's it ?

lol? basing it on the majority

It just sound like your changing your view now because

doesn't sound like the majority, sounds like your referring to all of them

that is because most artists begin with tags, they gain experience with tags, the ones that are getting really good at it and have more imagination than some others go to largepieces, yet though the canvas isnt deciding if its art or not, for example if a real time proffesional artists makes a painting, he makes it first on a small canvas.. then he likes it and decides to redo the thing on a larger scale.. than is the larger canvas art and the smaller not?

sorry for bad grammers xD
