i hate the people that say that tags are pointless to make since when does art have to be art only because you can sell it ? imo art can be everything ... even tags so .. just because they don't sell doesn't mean it's not art but the fact that all the big names that make tags are sold for ALOT in auction rooms over the gfx forums is bull---- sometimes i see a tag in the auction room from a "legendary" tagger .. but the tag is ---- seriously .. my ---- is better then some of those tags but still they get sold for over 2k .. just because that "legendary" tagger made it but yea ... i made tags for a long time .. and it is kinda fun to make them and it's cool that some people actually like your tags so it's kinda rewarding in a way
People fail to realize art can be anything, you all take it out of proportion and act as if you know everything and anything about art.
I agree completely with you, signatures are what got me into art, I have no intention of being a true 'Artist' but making signatures is fun, and it's what I like to do. Saying that signatures do not express ones emotions is a blatant lie, of course there will be times when making signatures reflects ones emotions. When I'm making a signature I usually have a specific mind-set on what I want to make. So clearly I am putting some emotions into it, and it usually is reflected in the outcome. As for 'Legendary' Sig artists, I'm not to sure about that one, as I have stuck close with people for my whole graphics career, and never really ventured into huge sites (other then GR, and PR), but in the past year or 2 signature styles have changed ALOT, this newer style is much more complex then the old one, I've only been in graphics for about a year and a half, so I don't really know the trend, but from what I've seen the older artists have been kind of pushed out, and their style has been shunned by the majority. So all the old possible 'Legendary' artists are either trying to adapt, or they are just quitting. So that only leaves the young'ins to become legends, so I guess that as of now there aren't really any 'Legendary' sig artists, but in coming months-years they will definitely start sprouting up. Also it seems that alot of signature artists have been taking breaks from graphics in general (I know I have), so there could be a big jump once everyone gets back into the swing of things.
warning, post being made without reading anyone's long and thought out arguments. i feel that this discriminates against me for beign a prö designer
^ laff There are no "---" designers just as there are no "perfect" artists; there are some people who made new trends, had new ideas and expressed it well. Regardless of whether or not you reckon tags are art the fact is a lot of trends that go through tags are mimicked in LPs and a lot in advertising. Certainly in the UK it's that way round - a new style will crop up in GFX forums and about two or three months later its everywhere in adverts. Oh and whoever said you can't have art on a small scale really doesn't know much. There are thousands of paintings, sculptures etc. on the macro scale of things that evoke thought or emotion; I'm not proposing that tags do this but they can be just as original as anything else. It's just often "pros" aren't original - they're just trend whores that can copy other original pieces and make a name for themselves maybe with one or two new techniques. Most of the stuff that sells high here is utter crap whilst some artists here I feel continuously churn out good tags can't get a single bid. Thats art...
Tags take no skill and lack any emotion. Anybody could make one. Thats not true about real large art.
I'm a --- designer =) lawl.. no. I frankly don't care about sig making, its what someone enjoys doing. Its just that ppl want more than something 400x120 pixels. imo, being able to seel your LP's, magazine covers.. etc. for real money, would make me feel really good.
in a similar vein, selling my "prö" photo-editing skills for $toomuch.money an hour is pretty sweet. while im not that great at tags, apparently im good enough at photoshop to edit photos at a ----- level. i define that as "prö". but really, tags are art. a really great tag should be a miniature piece of artwork. besides not all traditional art has a point or emotion. think "study". theyre like studies in photoshop.
Im glad you feel your tags are art. Do it on a bigger canvas make everyting yourself, and show emotion and then ill care about what you have to say. I read your peoples long thought out arguements, they're just saying "Tags take skill to". But whats art without emotion? Empty is what.
those aren't mine What about the tags I posted that are vectors or digital painting, oh they aren't on a large scale right so that isn't expressive? Well Pixel Art is on a small canvas right
