I'm trying to put a fog effect around the render, but I am new to Photoshop. Can someone help me please?

    Thanks

Another way, one that I usually use.

Take the default round brushes and set their opacity to something around 15-20%
And just pick and choose places you want the fog to be, and then where you want it to me more dense or less dense.

Another way, is to make a gradient layer, then set that layer to screen, then fool with the opacity of the layer... That is if you want strict uniformity; which I have never seen any fog be. :P

I am still not really accustomed to deviantArt's new gallery layout, so I cannot confirm if they are still there, but my fog brushes of choice are Judith's.
