I know I'm too late, but when I want something which is too expensive for my parents to pay, I support them a bit, so we both pay 50% for example.
Who cares!!!!!!!!!(Although i do agree with you about Apple extorting its customers) If you jailbreak your iPod touch (hack it) there will be no need for paying for certain updates. The iPod touch has like almost unlimited potential, its not just a music and video player. I can play many games, even some NES games, and GBA games sometimes PS1 games (although its kinda stupid cause it lags). Once jailbreak you can totally customize your iPod touch
