I think they're called mouse-pens. it basically a mouse, but shaped like a pen
are there anyone out there who have one?
i went to the computer store recently. most are way over my budget. i think the brand was wacom. and then i saw this other one. slightly more affordable but still quite expensive for me. the brand was Genius or something
im thinking about buying one, for drawing digital paintings. i suck at using the regular mouse. but i dont want an expensive one. im not a hardcore graphic designer or anything, more like a hobbyist, something to do over the weekends.

so:
a. are they worth it?
b. which ones should i get?

I guess you write with a special pen on a tablet and the tablet detects your movement

^Word. They are pretty awsome if you got the money for one, honestly I think Wacom is the only way to go though since it's the only one9to my knowledge) that offers a battery free cordless pen and mouse(the mouse depends on what model you get).

A.Yes, if you've got the money and are actually going to use it instead of letting it collect dust in a corner.
B.Wacom's are the best, as for the model it depends. If you are serious about graphic design Intuos3 and Cintiq are the best as they offer the most pressure sensitivity and come in good sizes. If you just want to try one out I would suggest the Wacom Bamboo or Bamoo Fun, or if you want a really cheap tablet(compared to a Wacom anyway) I hear Aiptek is pretty decent though it doesn't have the battery free cordless stylus as stated above.

Here's a little guide that might help you:

Wacom Tablets are different from Tablet PC's. If you have a tablet pc (a laptop that lets you write on the screen) then you're looking for a stylus for it. If you have a normal desktop computer, you're looking for a wacom tablet. I have a Wacom Tablet and I love it.

thank you very much guys. appreciate it.
i think i might go for the bamboo instead of the bamboo fun. i dont see the point of spending extra on a mouse (which i already have) or the software (which i might not use), unless you can convince me otherwise

by the way, does having the cordless pen makes a big difference? i can imagine why people would want it

and another major thing, does photoshop cs2 support the pressure sensitivity of the tablet?

Yes and CS2 has that new transformation tool, warp I guess. I hate it that I don't have that tool with CS1. -_-

And this was offtopic btw.

It all depends on your preference, with the wacom cordless it doesn't require the battery so you don't have to keep buying them, it's not super heavy because the battery is gone, and the cord doesn't get in your way and pull your stylus because it's cordless.

When you say cordless are you talking about the actual pen or the tablet? I have a Intuos3 6x8 and the pen itself is cordless and DOESN'T even use a battery. The tablet doesn't have a battery either and connects via USB.

I think he means the pen, cuz he said he was thinking about getting the bamboo so maybe he's still unsure of which brand to get(which like I told him only wacom offers the battery free cordless pen).
