Heey guys. I'm planning to buy a laptop BUTTT I dont know if I should go for a Mac or for a PC. PC: - Security is lacking - Used by allmost the entire population - To many choices between one OS --> Dont know if I should go for Home etct ect ect Mac: - Hardly no security flaws - NOT used by allot of people - Great OS The reason why im stuck on this is because I have already got a PC (Yess still XP...deh). But I just need to get your guys opinion on this matter Whats better? PC or Mac
well at the local hacking convention, pwntoown, the mac was hacked within 2 minutes via safari, and it took around 2 days for the vista system to be hacked. The hackers gave up on the ubuntu system. also apple has one of the worst records for patching in the industry. It's not that OSX is necessarily more secure it's that it's less targeted. That said it's less targetted. A LOT less. So much less that you'de have to more or less be a complete idiot to have something go wrong. That said vista is pretty dang stable and secure. I like it. I've run just about everything myself so I'm mostly speaking from first hand experience. That said I'm also rather cheap, so bang/$ matters most to me. If I look at a system, I'm looking at the hardware as to me, software is "worthless" here's a more accurate version PC: - Targeted more - more/better 3rd party software - Home premium/linux dual boot = best of both worlds Mac: - not targeted due to lack of use - NOT used by allot of people, poor drivers support(don't plan on gaming at all, at least not under OSX) - Very user friendly UI, OS itself is somewhat lacking in performance - Technically identical to PCs aside from costing around 20-100% more for the same hardware and having a different operating system

You can run windows on a mac, and pay $500-1000 more for the mac hardware and won't be able to upgrade it. Honestly, just build a PC.
no, having all of everything is windoze, BSD/linux, and OSX. most people who go the BSD/linux route don't even bother with OSX though. OSX is basically a more bloated version of the most bloated BSD(free BSD) out there with it's own proprietory APIs and a weird hybrid kernel which gets more criticism in the IT community than praise.

FYI maddox is a satrical site nothing stated there should be taken TOO seriously. FYI you'de have gotten a PC either way. Since apple's transition to x86 they became one of the top vendors of PC clones. That's right, Macs are PC clones, knock offs off the original IBM design(not that 99% of systems sold on the market aren't technically PC clones)

And since we have all mentioned that the Macintosh machines are the most proprietory things on this planet then I would say that the personal built or non-Macintosh machines are deffinately the way to go. What you really need to do is take a trip down to your local Apple dealer (Best Buy now even) and I want you to look on the back of the system. Where the "passive cooling" vents are I want you to view how non-functional they actually are. The are like a 1/2" slot on the top back of the i-Mac and they suck the air out of the bottom where the ----ty speakers are. Now, be you me, I don't want to buy a 1,000 + dollar system with ----ty as ------ cooling. Not to mention non-upgradeable and with no REAL technical support (not that Win/Lin Machines have it either), since everyone who has a Mac that has had the dreaded (worsely than the Windows BSOD) Grey Screen of Death and have sent it even to the "Mac Pros" get it back with the same problem they sent it in with. At least when Windows ------s up you can EASILY reformat and go from there and use a multitude of backup options. Same with REGULAR BSD's and Linuxes. Anyways, it is up to you but I hope you have changed your mind because I wouldn't want them to proffit anymore LOL. Maybe I am extreme when it comes to that but yeah, it's true.
The bottom line is, if you even remotely want to enjoy using your computer for anything other than....umm....iMovie.... Buy a PC.

I was at the same crossroads, theres so many apsects you have think about.. PC : Less Expensive More help availible Windows + Linux Endless software Mac : Expensive Need to buy more software for mac specific Leopard + Linux I have used mac for awhile, my dads laptop as well as at school, i find its more of gimmick and just something different then windows which appeals to lots of people. I find windows is easier because there literally billions of programs for mac, whereas there are not as many availible for windows. Id say go for a windows laptop, and setup a nice dual boot with setup with your favorite linux distro.
i don't understand people... if you gonan put windows on a mac why get a mac in first place? i rather get a pc and dual boot linux which is a better os than OSx and the GUI is better looking
