well, I'm going to be taking advanced photo soon in my highschool, and I really took a liking to this photog stuff in basic photo, so I was just wondering what kind of camera would everyone reccomend I get? also, what kind of camera do you use and why? and please say an explanation along with the camera you reccomend I don't wanna just go off a whim.
Nikon D40 or Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Both are fairly cheap, but you might have to a bit of searching and price comparing to find the best deal. The Nikon is 6.1 megapixels, and the Canon is 8.1 megapixels, and both run for about $550 to $600. But like I said, you could probably get a fairly good deal if you look around. been looking for a better camera myself. I'm not too worried about megapixels I"m worried about IQ, image resolution is secondary to image quality as far as colour representation and sharpness goes anything good in the $100-200 range?
I use a CANON A640, 10 mega pixel digital cam and I love it... You get amazing detail, even from a distance If you want some kind of indication, you can check out my DevA page You can get one for around $500 online...
If you're being serious about photography and already know how to use a basic camera go for a DigitalSLR. Either Nikon or Canon, though personally I much prefer the Canon EOS range as I find them simple to understand, well laid out and of good build quality plus the lenses out there for Canons is arguably slightly better than Nikons. Personally I use the Canon EOS 400D but would also recommend the 40D. The Rebel XT is a good camera but the 400D just offers that edge over it for little less cost, and you can get some really good deals out there at the moment. I would look at the 500 range just yet as the added cost doesn't really justify them above the 400D (which is cheap quite simply because its one of the most sold DSLRs ever). If you're still fairly new to photography or just looking for a camera to use occasionally don't go DSLR but go for Hybrid cameras. The Sony CyberShot range are pretty decent but prices can often be higher than what you would pay for the Canon PowerShot range which are arguably the better cameras as they do offer more control due to their wealth of different settings and adjustable options. Personally I've used three incarnations of PowerShots for going for the EOS 400D and each has served its purpose very well (I still keep one around for when I need a more compact shooter). Plus image quality is very high on all PowerShot cameras, zoom can be literally amazing (my current is an 8x optical zoom but a very good 24x digital zoom on top of that - and let me tell you modern digital zoom is almost as good as optical zoom, you only see a real difference above A4 size) especially when the cost is considered.
